The 2016 presidential election is proof that the United States is a country divided. With the inauguration looming, some have celebration on their minds. Others—protest.

Even Fox News admitted, “Opponents to Donald Trump’s presidency are planning large-scale demonstrations in the nation’s capital in January when the Republican president-elect is sworn in on inauguration day, with police apparently expecting tens-of-thousands of protesters.”

As Care2’s Kevin Mathews , a self-described “frequent protest-goer,” put it, protesting is a natural response when people feel helpless about the country taking a wrong turn. It’s a way of saying, “I refuse to be complicit in our current approach.”

Anna Galland, the executive director of MoveOn.org, told the New Yorker, “I expect mass peaceful protests with hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, around the Inauguration and in other moments.”

Trump is obviously going to be the most divisive president in history. We can add that to his winning the electoral college even though he lost the popular vote by a huge margin.

Here's hoping that he'll do a much much better job than the horrible incompetence that the Bush Administration hoisted on the US.

Why not? It's not like those protestors have to go to work or anything. And their welfare checks come at the beginning of the month. The money's all gone by the 20th.

Here's hoping the maggot infested good for nothings at least clean up after themselves before they leave DC. You know it cost a lot for cities to clean up after those Occupy Wallstreet hippies.

Trump will not be divisive, the division among americans is what is divisive. He will serve over a divided America. One side thinks things are just fine and the current path is good, no significant changes are needed. The other side are people that open borders free trade, an offshored job creation engine, and economic globalization has devastated, taking away their ability to prosper. Their suffering, which the other side couldn't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about, gave us sanders and trump. So this is the division.

I know what it used to mean, I've taking to calling this new breed of authoritarian democrat neoliberal. I could always just go back to calling them neomarxist. I figure if neoliberals can change the meaning of a word so can I.

Just start firing job applications into the crowd, they will disperse in horror and indignation.

Hundreds of thousands? Hundreds sure, a thousand maybe ... of course if it paves the way for Trump declaring martial law, I say: sure why not get right down to cases.

It would be better to keep watch on this potential third world type dictator through Congress and the courts. Since LICE Trump will be trashing our Constitution we need to keep extremely vigilant. Demonstrations will not work so why waste time on actions that will not result in any victories. .

To protest is fine but what do the protesters hope to gain? Do they have a list of real demands? If their only goal is to yell "not my president" for two hours then I say they are wasting their time. Trump will be their president (the legal ones anyway) and chanting to the contrary will not change anything.

I do not know why libs feel these "movements" are worth it. They accomplish nothing. I am organizing a bowel movement that will be more effective than this silly movement in the OP.

He may be your President, but he's not mine; I didn't vote that moron into office; while I respect the office of President, I don't respect the person occupying it until he proves to me that he's worthy of it. So far his cabinet appointments do not impress me and his claim to have saved the Carrier jobs is nothing but window dressing. Let's see how many of his campaign promises he actually keeps to the word.
