In an amazing turn of events, Trump appears to be willing to do what I would have thought was the blatantly obvious, that being meeting with intelligence leaders to learn all about Russian hacking I suppose.

Not the lacking this information has been a barrier to commenting about it.

Have more reasonable voices in the GOP finally gotten it into Trump's noggin the tweeting something does not necessarily true? That maybe he should start listening to intelligence officials?

President-elect Donald Trump will meet with the Intelligence Community next week to discuss Russian interference in the election, he said in a vaguely worded statement issued Thursday evening that did not mention sanctions announced by President Obama earlier that day.

“It's time for our country to move on to bigger and better things,” Trump wrote in the brief statement. “Nevertheless, in the interest of our country and its great people, I will meet with leaders of the intelligence community next week in order to be updated on the facts of this situation.”

The statement did not define “this situation,” but the transition team earlier in the day had promised a response to the announced sanctions would be forthcoming.

Trump has repeatedly denied any Russian involvement in the hacks of the Democratic party that intelligence officials have said were an attempt to “interfere” in the U.S. election.

He has characterized any reports to that effect as an attempt by Democrats to delegitimize his election.

But amongst lawmakers, the intelligence community and most security experts, there’s little question that Russian intelligence was behind the hacks on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

Obama on Thursday announced a slate of retaliatory measures against Russia, including economic sanctions targeted at the intelligence agencies and officials behind the attacks.

Simultaneously, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a joint report detailing some of the forensic fingerprints that led them to attribute the attack to Russia.

Trump's refusal to accept the IC's conclusions has put him at odds with congressional leaders in his own party, who largely praised the sanctions on Thursday.

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) called Obama's action "overdue" and "appropriate," though he slammed Obama as having an "ineffective foreign policy."

Ryan added that "Russia does not share America’s interests. In fact, it has consistently sought to undermine them, sowing dangerous instability around the world."

Trump has also faced scrutiny for declining some of the daily intelligence briefings normally given to incoming president

If you don't have a president taking your intelligence seriously then people aren't gonna come to the USA with Intel anymore. Why risk your life for a president who thinks you're a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing liar

We didn't need CIA and FBI forensics to know who beheaded Jim Foley right before Obama played golf and did nothing. Obama loses his third term and legacy and he sends the country back to 1970, Americans die and he plays golf.

And Obama is famous for missing his security briefings.

    Garbage in ..... garbage out.

Notably, the report, released by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Thursday, mentions Russia only three times and includes a disclaimer saying the DHS “does not provide any warranties of any kind regarding any information contained within.”

Exactly. It's all bluster. Only people who want to believe the worst about Russia believe these claims.

Considering the fact that the man has been too busy meeting celebrities and Tweeting to sit through, or read an intelligence briefing, this is quite a change.

So their's a thread complaining about Trump meeting with intelligence leaders? Not sure if I sure respond sarcastically or incredulously. Either way it's stuff like this that hurts everyone's credibility for when he actually does do something. It was dumb when people did it with Obama and it's just as dumb now that it's being done with Trump.

Get it together people because if you don't then no one will have any credibility when it comes to something legitimate. And that's when we will all pay.

Wow, talk about damned if you do, and damned if you don't. President-elect Trump says he will meet the Obama's intelligence people to review information on the supposed Russian hacking. This follows a joint FBI CIA paper that supposedly fingers Russia for the crime. So, obviously they have just completed the investigation. This would be the proper time for the meeting.

As soon as Trump takes office, he will have to decide whether to keep the sanction that Obama is about to announce in place, or whether additional measures are warranted. It is understandable that Trump would not accept Obama's word at face value. After all, Obama and the DNC are looking for scapegoats to blame for Hillary's defeat. Russia makes a very convenient target. Let's also not forget that Obama has been pushing the lie that the DNC was hacked. The fact is that the GOP was hacked too. But the hackers did not find anything like the crap the DNC was pulling.

Think about this. The leaked emails showed that the DNC worked strenuously to knock off all DNC candidates that opposed Hillary. This was to ensure Hillary won the party's nomination. On the other hand, the GOP was clearly not comfortable with Trump winning the party's nomination, but they did not do anything to undermine his campaign.

I wonder who gave him a pep talk... the absence of a tweet and now this, a willingness to make an informed decision... those presidential lessons must be paying off after all

Don't worry, once Trump is in office and homeland security (now a cabinet position) gets working to spy on ordinary Americans in ways that would make J. Edgar Hoover squeamish. Not only will the hacking disappear, but so will you.

homosexuality has nothing to do with this thread. pres trump does not have intelligence daily briefings, and up to now, has dimissed us intelligence reports about russis, which is unorthodox to past presidents and alarms many at the senior intelligence levels.

Yes picking his cabinet should not have been done... Talking to opposing view points like Al Gore should not have been done.. Talking to Jim Brown about helping the inner cities should not have been done.

    You guys crack me up!

Russia is "sowing dangerous instability around the world"? Good grief; do we need any reminders of American war-mongering, invasions, regime manipulation, election rigging in foreign lands, overthrowing legitimate democracies and the bombing of anyone not playing by American rules?
