A good buddy of mine died 6 years ago today. We went to high school together. He entered the Navy in hopes to become a Navy SEAL. I have no idea what class he was in when he attended BUDs but he made it pretty far. Made it past hell week just fine. He ended up quitting near the end for a reason I don't know. Still proud of him for making it that far. He left the Navy and joined the Army. Back then it was called the blue to green program, not sure if it's still a thing. We saw each other briefly when he came to my OSUT graduation at Fort Benning. The following month he was in Iraq. A couple months after that he caught a ricochet and we'll leave it at that. RIP my dude. Arch Angel looking down and giving us enemy coordinates

A 1/9, the 9th Marines better remembered as the "Walking Dead." You really have to search to find a Marine who served with the 9th Marines during the Vietnam War who wasn't awarded the Purple Heart. I consider my self really lucky when I first arrived in-country that I was assigned to 1/13 and not the 12th Marines. If I were have been assigned to the 12th Marines it was very likely I would have been attached to the "Walking Dead" (9th Marines)
