President-elect Trump has threatened a stiff border tax if Toyota decides to build the popular Corolla auto in Baja State, Mexico. Should Toyota be concerned? Not really. Toyota will simply pass that tax on to the consumer who purchases a Mexican manufactured Corolla. And the United States will still lose Toyota manufacturing jobs to Mexico. Does Toyota lose? No. Does Mexico lose? No. The American consumer and auto workers lose and Trump is eventually made to look the fool. Regards, Jason Bourne
Don't test me. I know what's going on in my own country http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-takes-aim-at-toyota-2017-1 The company also produces the model at plants in Mississippi and Ontario, Canada. According to the 2015 announcement, the Corolla production in Mexico would replace Toyota's plant in Canada, not the US. Regards, truly.
Nothing. Under NAFTA, there are no tariffs on cars imported to the U.S. that are made in Mexico or Canada. Unless NAFTA is amended, nothing.
Depends on how much Toyota would have to raise prices to compensate for the tariff. Depending on trim level, the Corolla currently starts at between $18,500-$22,700, and a $500 increase in price due to tariffs wouldn't make as big of a difference as a $5,000 increase. If the former happened, Toyota probably wouldn't see much of a sales loss, but if the price jumped up by $5,000 across the board, buyers would either go for a slightly larger Camry or look at models from other automakers.
Sure, and since Americans have an unlimited amount of money, that price increase won't affect their sales at all! SO MUCH WINNING YOU’LL BE TIRED OF WINNING: Fiat Chrysler announces $1 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing, 2,000 new jobs. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/01/0...tment-in-u-s-manufacturing-2000-new-jobs.html
The Fiat decision was in the works way way before Nov 8, 2016. So stop giving the LICE Trump credict for a Fiatvdecision that was made 2 years ago.
Fiat Chrysler To Invest $1 Billion In The US, Add 2,000 Jobs Suddenly the coolest thing in corporate America is announcing major capital investments in the US while adding thousands of American jobs, in other words the opposite of the globalization trend of the past 30 years, in yet other words, doing precisely what Donald Trump demands. Kentucky is fighting for their share of this opportunity: Union Servitude Ends In Kentucky: State Kills Prevailing Wages, Passes Right-To-Work Congratulations to Kentucky. The state will now be able to avoid overpaying for schools and paving roads. Prevailing wage laws guarantee overpaying. There is nothing fair at all about forcing someone to join an organization against their free will. In fact, it’s compelled servitude to do so. Public unions get into bed with management and politicians and work out sweet deals for themselves at taxpayer expense. No one looks out for the taxpayer. Hopefully Trump will revise or completely toss the National Labor Relations board out the window. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-...tate-kills-prevailing-wages-passes-right-work
Gosh darn right! That is how America is made great again, destruction of unions. I mean, who needs the right to collectively negotiate when they can simply take lower paying jobs with less benefits?
Yeah, good luck convincing folks in Kentucky that Democrats and Obama holds them with anything but disdain or has done a damn thing to help them, or if their "great" policies do them a damn bit of good. This last election was between the "haves" who voted for Hillary and the "have nots" who voted for TRUMP! And the "Have-Nots" Won! Is this a great country or what?
I've done pretty well negotiating my salary without joining a union. I don't pay dues and my insurance is great, in spite of the rate increases since 0bamacare kicked in. Keep sending jobs to Texas.
