Here are my lessons. The number in the brackets is the age I was at at the time the lesson was learnt.

[12] Having a best friend and a good family makes life happy.

[14] The best manipulators and educational liars are teachers.

[14] Having no mother feels good.

    [15] Dont trust your dad.

[16] Having a girlfriend doesnt make you happy. Having the one you want does.

[17-20] Education is much better in other countries.

[23] Distant family members can be hostile.

[24] A degree doesnt guarantee work.

[27] Completing certain courses give you work.

[28] Commitment and hard work double your salary.

[29] Surgeries and other cosmetic changes wont make you look good.

    [30] Tattoos are bad.

[31] If you try find a job and keep it, it isnt enough to have a good job experience.

[32] PUA is <Mod Edit Rule 9> BS.

[32] You can enjoy life in many ways.

[32] Concept of freedom is ill-defined in most people's heads.

[32] You must deviate from how the average person thinks and acts to experience success.

[32] Be careful of drawing conclusions from emotional state.

[32] Dont deny pain, acknowledge it and, if you can learn from it.

    What were yours?

    45 -50:
Forget everything I've ever believed. It is all crap.
Make happiness a priority because it doesn't happen all by itself.
Approach love and joy with reckless abandon.
It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all
Sex is like water: Without it we die of thirst.

Mine is far more practical--you need at least 3 different sized pipe wrenches and a metal pipe that will fit over their handles to use for leverage if you are going to survive life unscathed.

    - You may think you have experienced love if you have loved your parents, siblings, girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses, or a best friend. But there is nothing like the love of a parent for a child.

    - You will almost always regret losing your temper.

    - An apology can help heal a wound, but scars are forever.

    - You did not choose what country you would be born into. You did not choose your parents. So if you are successful in life, remember ... you did not do it all by yourself.

    - The same old men who decide to send our children to war should have to pick up a rifle, go to the battlefield, and lead the charge.

My two cents ... Seth :oldman:

A lot of lot of wisdom seems like boring cliches, until you ignore them

Experts are unexpectedly often full of sheit

Indulging your appetites is less rewarding than expected

    People will often surprise you,

Animals are more conscious than we may assume

More expensive does not guarantee quality
Less expensive does not guarantee savings

    Design matters

    Virtually anything can be interesting

Your choices matter more than you think

    And finally
    It is almost impossible
    And therefore very frustrating
To try to share what you have learned about life

Be bold and fearless. The faint of heart never won fair lady... or riches
Women can appreciate the beauty of other women, but not like men appreciate beauty.
Men are often more romantic than women
Many women are kinkier than I ever imagined.
Most men view sex and love as two completely different concepts. Many women don't.
A surprising number of young women are fine with older men.
The darkest moments in life often come just before the dawn.
Life can turn on a dime. In fact, it usually does.
    Love at first sight exists.

25 ... commitment and stability are the best platform for an active and rich life.
30 ... children are the greatest levellers, and the ultimate proving ground for the above.
35 ... money and stuff are less important than a deliberately lived life - and a deliberately lived life requires very little money and stuff.
40 ... the best anti-aging device on the planet is to not care about aging.
45 ... children grow up way too fast.
50 ... kindness is like snow, it beautifies everything it covers (K Gibran).

Good stuff. I did have to bold one point though. As a woman, who is also friends and siblings with and to many other women, I would have to say this is entirely untrue. I've rarely met a female who is genuinely interested in older men. They are very much the exception, and usually have daddy issues. I would say 99% of women want a man no more than about 5 or 6 years older. And many prefer men the same age, or even a little younger. We're no more attracted to saggy old flesh than men are.

Edited to add: if you're encountering young woman who 'appear' to like older men, I can guarantee they're not interested in his flesh.

I like this one, very much (my bold). I absolutely agree. Though at the same time, I'm very aware that it's the voice of privilege agreeing. Design doesn't matter a good (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) when you're working the fields 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, just to survive.

But yes, within the rarefied context of the privileged west, design matters far more than most of us seem to appreciate. I would say its importance cannot be overstated.

I disagree. There is a vast void between women who like older men and those who don't. Those who don't can't begin to understand those who do. But there are plenty of examples of older men marrying much younger women. In fact, in many cultures, it was or even is perfectly normal. And sugar babies marrying their daddy is fairly common. Also, escorts do sometimes marry a much older john. But there are limits and not everyone wants the same thing. The game I play is that I don't expect forever. That makes all the difference. And as for daddy issues, I think that is a red herring. We all have issues.

I'm in great shape but it is a constant battle to stay ahead of the curve. However, at just over 50 I am in better shape than most men half my age.

By loving her more than life itself, I managed to win the heart of a 22 yo who was breathtakingly beautiful. That was too big of an age difference to last, but we had three incredible years together - the best three years of my life. It took her 18 months to admit that she loved me, and she broke down and cried when when she did, but she did. That was the happiest day of my life.

I remember when I thought someone who was 30 was old. I suppose there might be instances where a young woman might have feelings for an older guy though. Certainly not impossible. That wasn't me when I was younger though. I was much too shallow. Lol!

Hah! I was just reminded that there was a time when I thought someone who was 30 was old too. And I was reminded how quickly time flies by.

As I got older I slowly realised that we all die. When we're younger death is just a word to us, but as the years pass I've seen my parents die, my grandparents, aunts, uncles, a nephew, friends, so death becomes a very real thing to us and we realise our turn will be a-coming.
Death doesn't unduly worry me and it'll be quite an adventure- "The undiscovered country from whose bourn [frontier] no traveller returns"- Hamlet

PS- I've also seen several members of assorted net forums die over the years, and although we never knew them personally and only spoke to them in posts, it really hit all of us very hard, especially when we come across their old posts while browsing. Weird huh?

I am 24 now and got my BA last year (June 2016) and although I knew diplomas are overrated and won't guarantee sh*t, never did I think finding a job could be this difficult and time-consuming. :blankstare:

Did it really take you that long to figure that out? Honestly? I was probably around 10 when I realised adults aren't these all-knowing Gods wandering Earth to protect us. :p
