My dear friend from La La Land, your biggest joke is "hisotry". Tell us what "hisotry" is. A kind of insane asylum, perhaps?

The other real jokes are your so-called Wikipedia websites, none of which can be clicked to verify your "hisotry" claims.

When Trump was asked during his press conference whether Russia is withholding something to blackmail him, he just dismissed it as "fake news". Your "hisotry" claims seem to be more fake than Trump's "fake news".

As a newbie, you have managed to crack so many jokes in your 3rd post. I am looking forward to more but better jokes than these, but post them in the "Humor & Satire" column please.

Perhaps the most recognizable symbol of China and its long and vivid history, the Great Wall of China actually consists of numerous walls and fortifications, many running parallel to each other. Originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang (c. 259-210 B.C.) in the third century B.C. as a means of preventing incursions from barbarian nomads into the Chinese Empire, the wall is one of the most extensive construction projects ever completed. The best-known and best-preserved section of the Great Wall was built in the 14th through 17th centuries A.D., during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Though the Great Wall never effectively prevented invaders from entering China, it came to function more as a psychological barrier between Chinese civilization and the world, and remains a powerful symbol of the country’s enduring strength.

China's greatest invention was the Great Wall, frequently billed as the only man-made object visible from space. President Trump will build another one between the US and Mexico for the same purpose as the Chinese during the Ming dynasty. Its scale surpassed Hadrian's Wall, a defensive fortification in the Roman province of Britannia.

Thanks for your informative post, small girl. At least, you are serious in what you are posting, unlike the clown poster who dumps his rubbish jokes in this thread.

It can be seen that the Chinese emperors were good wall builders, but not great businessmen or jokers like Trump, otherwise they would have ordered the nomads in the neighbouring countries to pay for the Great Wall.

P.S. I like your post, but I laud your free program more. Keep up your good work! :clapping:

Mr Marching Apple, you must have been marching all the way out of the Stone Age. I wonder how you clean your bottom after finishing your "big business" in the toilet because you have yet to come into contact with one of the greatest invention of the Chinese -- paper.

Please refer to the excerpts from the article headlined "The Oldest Living Civilization" at the https://www.historians.org/about-ah...r-chinese-ally/the-oldest-living-civilization

    (Begin excerpts)
...In art and philosophy, many people think, no culture has ever surpassed that of China in its great creative periods. In material culture, though we think of the roots of our own civilization as being almost entirely European, we have also received much from Asia—paper, gunpowder, the compass, silk, tea, and porcelain....

China in fact had a civilization similar to that of Europe before the Industrial Revolution, and superior to it in many ways. The agriculture of China was more advanced and productive than that of Europe because of the great use of irrigation: and the wide network of canals that supplied water for irrigation also provided cheap transport. The Chinese had reached a high level of technique and art in the malting of such things as porcelain and silk, and in general the guild craftsmen of their cities were at least equal to those of the cities of pre-industrial Europe.

Moreover the Chinese had gone a good deal further than Europeans in the use of writing as a vehicle of civilization and government, and everything which that means. They had extensive statistics of government and finance at a time when Europe had practically none. They used written orders and regulations when Europe was still dependent on government by word of mouth.

The historical chart shows what was happening in China at the time of well-known events in the Western world. Note that some of the highest points in Chinese civilization came during the darkest days in Europe... (End excerpts)

My dear friend, no human is immortal. All humans need food to live. That's why all humans, including the Europeans, had experienced famines in history as shown in the article below. Perhaps, you are the exceptional as you have just marched out from the Stone Age, having nothing else but "marching apples" to fill your stomach.

The following are excerpts from Paul Homewood's January 27, 2013 article headlined "The Great Famine Of 1315" at https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2013/01/27/the-great-famine-of-1315/

    (Begin excerpts)
The Great Famine of 1315–1317 (occasionally dated 1315–1322) was the first of a series of large scale crises that struck Northern Europe early in the fourteenth century. Places affected include continental Europe (extending east to Russia and south to Italy) as well as Great Britain. It caused millions of deaths over an extended number of years and marks a clear end to an earlier period of growth and prosperity between the eleventh to thirteenth centuries.

Starting with bad weather in spring 1315, universal crop failures lasted through 1316 until summer harvest in 1317; Europe did not fully recover until 1322. It was a period marked by extreme levels of crime, disease, mass death and even cannibalism and infanticide. It had consequences for the church, state, European society and future calamities to follow in the fourteenth century....

Because of the general poverty, even lower-than-average harvests meant some people would go hungry. In Lorraine, wheat prices increased by 320% and peasants could no longer afford bread. Stores of grain for long-term emergencies were limited to the lords and nobles. People began to harvest wild edible roots, plants, grasses, nuts, and bark in the forests.

In the spring of 1316, it continued to rain on a European population deprived of energy and reserves to sustain itself. All segments of society from nobles to peasants were affected, but especially the peasants who represented 95% of the population and who had no reserve food supplies. To provide some measure of relief, draft animals were butchered, seed grain was consumed, children were abandoned to fend for themselves (see "Hansel and Gretel"), and some elderly people voluntarily refused food in order to provide nourishment needed for the younger generation to survive. The chroniclers of the time wrote of many incidents of cannibalism.

...Historians debate the toll but it is estimated that 10–25% of the population of many cities and towns died.... (End excerpts)

    1. My dear friend, cannibalism could be the last resort for the survival of an individual or a community during times of famine or food shortage. Perhaps you are different from the rest of mankind as you have just emerged from the Stone Age. You can't survive on other food except "marching apples". Cannibalism reminds me of an anecdote in my political satire "The Old Man of the Mountain".

    (Begin excerpts)
Narrator: With his horse breaking into a furious gallop, the priest continued his journey towards the mountain fortress. On the way, he found a lad lying by the roadside. The lad was pale, haggard, and was just skin and bones. The priest asked the lad what had afflicted him.

Lad: I was college student. One day, my best friend, a 25-year-old graduate, told me he had been revealed in a vision he was Moses' incarnation on earth. God told him he was destined to liberate all the enslaved people here from the bondage of the Old Man of the Mountain. Like the Moses of his biblical incarnation, he would lead them across the desert to democracy, liberty and independence in the Promised Land.

When he closed his eyes and dreamed of the future of his ideal state, he pictured it as a utopian metropolis of skyscrapers and social justice, “where people can do whatever they want as long as it isn’t harmful to others”.

“It’s an international place, a cosmopolitan state,” he said.

Priest: Is it a part of the Old Man's Mountain?

Lad: According to my best friend, "No, not any more." One day, we set out together with ten thousand youths on a long journey to the Promised Land. At first, we believed God would provide us with manna during our travels in the desert. On the way, my friend picked a long branch from the ground to use it as Moses' staff. He held it high with both hands. However high he held, no manna fell from the heavens. We kept on walking, hoping to find an oasis on the way.

We walked for many days without food and water. In the end, we drank our own urine to quench our thirst. Gradually, our people dropped dead one after another, and they became the food for the living. Like vampires, we drank the blood of the dead to quench our thirst. After two months, a few thousands were left to trudge across the desert.

Seeing what had happened, thirty other survivors and I turned back secretly in the dark of night. On the journey back, my companions dropped dead one after another. As I am the strongest man and skilled in fighting, I end up as the last of the group, managing to finish all of them before reaching here in two months.

Priest: Humans can never learn their lessons from history. They are easily misled by the unrealistic promises and siren calls of unscrupulous politicians, false prophets and seductive pied pipers. Your description of your friend reminds me of Hong Xiuquan, the leader of the Taiping Rebellion against the Qing Dynasty. He fell ill after failing the imperial examinations twice. During his recovery in 1837, he had a number of vivid and terrifying dreams, which he interpreted as mystical visions. He claimed that he was told by God that he was the younger brother of Jesus.

He declared that God would defend Nanjing, but in June 1864, with the Qing forces approaching, he died of food poisoning as a consequence of eating wild vegetables when the city ran low on food supplies. He was sick for 20 days before succumbing and a few days after his death, the Qing forces took the city. His body was buried in the former Ming Imperial Palace, and was later exhumed on orders of Zeng Guofan to verify his death, and then cremated. Hong's ashes were later blasted out of a cannon in order to ensure that his remains have no resting place as eternal punishment for the uprising.

Lad: Hong's soul might have been vaporized forever by the blast.

Priest: Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the case. It seemed that his soul had not been vaporized to hellish atoms. Time and again his soul seems to creep back from hell, in the bodies of desperate rebels, frustrated dreamers and political opportunists, seducing gullible people into an endless chase of the unattainable.

Lad: I have a high regard for Hong Xiuquan. I would be glad if my friend was really Hong Xiuquan's reincarnation on earth.

Priest: There are two elements that make the likes of Hong Xiuquan a serious threat to society. Firstly, he was a dreamer. Secondly, he was frustrated. A frustrated dreamer is a dangerous person.

Lad: Is there any way to avert the comeback of Hong Hong Xiuquan's haunting soul?

Priest: There is no way to prevent its return, just like there is no magic bullet against pestilence. To avert the scourge of pestilence, we have to keep our house in order and our bodies clean. Similarly, to battle against the likes of Hong Hong Xiuquan, we have to constantly keep our society and country in tip-top condition.

As fire can be used to fight forest fires, albeit with a certain amount of risk; the authorities can use a "ghost" to fight another "ghost", albeit with a certain amount of risk. However if the wrong "ghost" is used, it would attract more "ghosts".

Narrator: The lad nodded his head in agreement. The priest carried him onto his horse and sent him to a doctor at a nearby village. (End excerpts)

    2. Cannibalism had been practised by almost all races, including the Europeans, especially during times of famine. The following are excerpts from Sarah Everts' April 24, 2013 article headlined "Europe’s Hypocritical History of Cannibalism" with subhead "From prehistory to the present with many episodes in between, the region has a surprisingly meaty history of humans eating humans" at http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/europes-hypocritical-history-of-cannibalism-42642371/

    (End excerpts)
....When early Homo sapiens began engaging in cannibalism is a topic of debate, although it is clear they eventually did, says Sandra Bowdler, an emeritus professor of archeology at the University of Western Australia. Evidence is scant that this happened in early human hunter-gatherer communities, she says, although in 2009 Fernando Rozzi, at the Centre National de la Récherche Scientifique, in Paris, reported finding a Neanderthal jaw bone that may have been butchered by early humans.

Even if Europe’s Homo sapiens didn’t consume each other in prehistory, they certainly did in more modern times. References to acts of cannibalism are sprinkled throughout many religious and historical documents, such as the reports that cooked human flesh was being sold in 11th-century English markets during times of famine, says Jay Rubenstein, a historian at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

However, the world’s first cannibal incident reported by multiple, independent, first-hand accounts took place during the Crusades by European soldiers, Rubenstein says.

These first-hand stories agree that in 1098, after a successful siege and capture of the Syrian city Ma’arra, Christian soldiers ate the flesh of local Muslims. Thereafter the facts get murky, Rubenstein says. Some chroniclers report that the bodies were secretly consumed in “wicked banquets” borne out of famine and without the authorization of military leaders, Rubenstein says. Other reports suggest the cannibalism was done with tacit approval of military superiors who wished to use stories of the barbaric act as a psychological fear tactic in future Crusade battles.

Either way, post-Crusade European society was not comfortable with what happened at Ma’arra, Rubenstein says. “Everybody who wrote about it was disturbed,” he says. “The First Crusade is the first great European epic. It was a story people wanted to celebrate.” But first they had to deal with the embarrassing stain.

Part of the problem was that cannibalism at Ma’arra simply didn’t fit in with the European self-image. In medieval times, cultural enemies—not military or religious heroes—were commonly depicted as cannibals or giants, “especially in narratives of territorial invasion and conquest,” argues Geradine Heng, in Cannibalism, The First Crusade and the Genesis of Medieval Romance. “Witches, Jews, savages, Orientals, and pagans are conceivable as—indeed, must be—cannibals; but in the 12th-century medieval imaginary, the Christian European subject cannot.”

By the 16th century, cannibalism was not just part of the mental furniture of Europeans; it was a common part of everyday medicine from Spain to England.

Initially, little bits of pulverized mummies imported from Egypt were used in prescriptions against disease, but the practice soon expanded to include the flesh, skin, bone, blood, fat and urine of local cadavers, such as recently executed criminals and bodies dug up illegally from graveyards, says University of Durham’s Richard Sugg, who published a book in 2011 called Mummies, Cannibals and Vampires: The History of Corpse Medicine from the Renaissance to the Victorians.

Medicinal cannibalism reached a feverish pitch around 1680, Sugg says. But the practice can be traced back to the Greek doctor Galen, who recommended human blood as part of some remedies in the 2nd century A.D., and it continued all the way into the 20th century. In 1910, a German pharmaceutical catalog was still selling mummy, says Louise Noble, who also wrote a book on the topic called Medicinal Cannibalism in Early Modern English Literature and Culture.

While Europeans ate “mummy” to cure their physical ailments, the same culture sent missionaries and colonists to the New World to cure New World indigenous people of their purported barbaric cannibalism, some of which was entirely fabricated as a rationale for conquest, Bowdler says. “It’s certainly possible that Europeans were consuming more human flesh at the time than people in the New World,” Sugg says.

“It’s a big paradox,” Noble adds. The term cannibal was being used to describe someone inferior while the “civilized in Europe were also eating bits of the human body,” she says.... (End excerpts)

My dear friend, I suppose you are a white supremacist as ignorant as a child about the history of your people. You would be surprised to learn of the enslavement of Europeans in the Middle Ages. The following are excerpts from Jeff Grabmeier's article headlined "WHEN EUROPEANS WERE SLAVES: RESEARCH SUGGESTS WHITE SLAVERY WAS MUCH MORE COMMON THAN PREVIOUSLY BELIEVED" at https://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/whtslav.htm

    (Begin excerpts)
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A new study suggests that a million or more European Christians were enslaved by Muslims in North Africa between 1530 and 1780 – a far greater number than had ever been estimated before.

In a new book, Robert Davis, professor of history at Ohio State University, developed a unique methodology to calculate the number of white Christians who were enslaved along Africa’s Barbary Coast, arriving at much higher slave population estimates than any previous studies had found....

“One of the things that both the public and many scholars have tended to take as given is that slavery was always racial in nature – that only blacks have been slaves. But that is not true,” Davis said. “We cannot think of slavery as something that only white people did to black people.”

During the time period Davis studied, it was religion and ethnicity, as much as race, that determined who became slaves.

“Enslavement was a very real possibility for anyone who traveled in the Mediterranean, or who lived along the shores in places like Italy, France, Spain and Portugal, and even as far north as England and Iceland,” he said.

Pirates (called corsairs) from cities along the Barbary Coast in north Africa – cities such as Tunis and Algiers – would raid ships in the Mediterranean and Atlantic, as well as seaside villages to capture men, women and children. The impact of these attacks were devastating – France, England, and Spain each lost thousands of ships, and long stretches of the Spanish and Italian coasts were almost completely abandoned by their inhabitants. At its peak, the destruction and depopulation of some areas probably exceeded what European slavers would later inflict on the African interior.

Although hundreds of thousands of Christian slaves were taken from Mediterranean countries, Davis noted, the effects of Muslim slave raids was felt much further away: it appears, for example, that through most of the 17th century the English lost at least 400 sailors a year to the slavers.

Even Americans were not immune. For example, one American slave reported that 130 other American seamen had been enslaved by the Algerians in the Mediterranean and Atlantic just between 1785 and 1793.

Davis said the vast scope of slavery in North Africa has been ignored and minimized, in large part because it is on no one’s agenda to discuss what happened.

The enslavement of Europeans doesn’t fit the general theme of European world conquest and colonialism that is central to scholarship on the early modern era, he said. Many of the countries that were victims of slavery, such as France and Spain, would later conquer and colonize the areas of North Africa where their citizens were once held as slaves. Maybe because of this history, Western scholars have thought of the Europeans primarily as “evil colonialists” and not as the victims they sometimes were, Davis said....

The result is that between 1530 and 1780 there were almost certainly 1 million and quite possibly as many as 1.25 million white, European Christians enslaved by the Muslims of the Barbary Coast.

Davis said his research into the treatment of these slaves suggests that, for most of them, their lives were every bit as difficult as that of slaves in America.

“As far as daily living conditions, the Mediterranean slaves certainly didn’t have it better,” he said.

While African slaves did grueling labor on sugar and cotton plantations in the Americas, European Christian slaves were often worked just as hard and as lethally – in quarries, in heavy construction, and above all rowing the corsair galleys themselves.

Davis said his findings suggest that this invisible slavery of European Christians deserves more attention from scholars.

“We have lost the sense of how large enslavement could loom for those who lived around the Mediterranean and the threat they were under,” he said. “Slaves were still slaves, whether they are black or white, and whether they suffered in America or North Africa.” (End excerpts)

From all the rubbish posted by you, I guess that you are a white supremacist (although you can't even write a decent paragraph without grammatical and spelling errors). The article below shows that your people also face moments of terror and humiliation, just like all other races.

The following are excerpts from Raymond Ibrahim's 30 July 2015 article headlined "Why Muslim Rapists Prefer Blondes: A History" at http://raymondibrahim.com/2015/07/30/why-muslim-rapists-prefer-blondes-a-history/

    (Begin excerpts)
.....The UK is also home to one of the most notorious Muslim-led sex ring scandals: in Rotherham and elsewhere, thousands of young native British girls have been systematically groomed, trafficked, beaten and sexually abused by Muslims—even as the “multiculturalist” authorities and police stood by and watched....

In fact, all throughout Europe—particularly in the Nordic nations—thousands of “Byzantine-type” women have been violently raped and egregiously beaten by Muslims. In Norway, Denmark, and Sweden—where fair hair and eyes predominate—rape has astronomically risen since those nations embraced the doctrine of multiculturalism and opened their doors to tens of thousands of Muslim immigrants.

According to Gatestone Institute, “Forty years after the Swedish parliament unanimously decided to change the formerly homogenous Sweden into a multicultural country, violent crime has increased by 300% and rapes by 1,472%.” The overwhelming majority of rapists are Muslim immigrants. The epidemic is so bad that some blonde haired Scandinavian women are dying their hair black in the hopes of warding off potential Muslim predators.

Nor is this phenomenon a product of chance; some modern day Muslims actually advocate for it. Back in 2011, a female politician and activist trying to combat sexual immorality in Kuwait suggested that Muslims import white sex slaves. After explaining how she once asked Islamic clerics living in the city of Mecca concerning the legality of sex slavery and how they all confirmed it to be perfectly legitimate, she explained:

"A Muslim state must [first] attack a Christian state—sorry, I mean any non-Muslim state—and they [the women, the future sex slaves] must be captives of the raid. Is this forbidden? Not at all; according to Islam, sex slaves are not at all forbidden....

As for what sort of “infidel” women are ideal, the Kuwaiti activist suggested Russian women (most of whom are fair haired and eyed; ironically, Russia is often seen as Byzantium’s successor):

"In the Chechnya war, surely there are female Russian captives. So go and buy those and sell them here in Kuwait; better that than have our men engage in forbidden sexual relations. I don’t see any problem in this, no problem at all.

In short, the ongoing epidemic in the UK, Scandinavia and elsewhere—whereby Muslim men sexually target white women—is as old as Islam, has precedents with the prophet and his companions, and, till this day, is being recommended as a legitimate practice by some in the Muslim world.... The "apple" that marched out from the Stone Age continues to spill a lot of litter from his mouth. He is probably a white supremacist although he can't even write English properly without grammatical and spelling errors.

Every individual has its happy and sad moments. Similarly, every race or nation has its up and down. The following are excerpts from the article entitled "The Sack of Constantinople, 1453" EyeWitness to History, www.eyewitnesstohistory.com (2011).

    (Begin excerpts)
...."Nothing will ever equal the horror of this harrowing and terrible spectacle. People frightened by the shouting ran out of their houses and were cut down by the sword before they knew what was happening. And some were massacred in their houses where they tried to hide, and some in churches where they sought refuge.

The enraged Turkish soldiers . . . gave no quarter. When they had massacred and there was no longer any resistance, they were intent on pillage and roamed through the town stealing, disrobing, pillaging, killing, raping, taking captive men, women, children, old men, young men, monks, priests, people of all sorts and conditions . . . There were virgins who awoke from troubled sleep to find those brigands standing over them with bloody hands and faces full of abject fury. This medley of all nations, these frantic brutes stormed into their houses, dragged them, tore them, forced them, dishonored them, raped them at the cross-roads and made them submit to the most terrible outrages. It is even said that at the mere sight of them many girls were so stupefied that they almost gave up the ghost.

Old men of venerable appearance were dragged by their white hair and piteously beaten. Priests were led into captivity in batches, as well as reverend virgins, hermits and recluses who were dedicated to God alone and lived only for Him to whom they sacrificed themselves, who were dragged from their cells and others from the churches in which they had sought refuge, in spite of their weeping and sobs and their emaciated cheeks, to be made objects of scorn before being struck down. Tender children were brutally snatched from their mothers' breasts and girls were pitilessly given up to strange and horrible unions, and a thousand other terrible things happened. . .

Temples were desecrated, ransacked and pillaged . . . sacred objects were scornfully flung aside, the holy icons and the holy vessels were desecrated. Ornaments were burned, broken in pieces or simply thrown into the streets. Saints' shrines were brutally violated in order to get out the remains which were then thrown to the wind. Chalices and cups for the celebration of the Mass were set aside for their orgies or broken or melted down or sold. Priests' garments embroidered with gold and set with pearls and gems were sold to the highest bidder and thrown into the fire to extract the gold. Immense numbers of sacred and profane books were flung on the fire or tom up and trampled under foot. The majority, however, were sold at derisory prices, for a few pence. Saints' altars, tom from their foundations, were overturned. All the most holy hiding places were violated and broken in order to get out the holy treasures which they contained . . .

When Mehmed (II) saw the ravages, the destruction and the deserted houses and all that had perished and become ruins, then a great sadness took possession of him and he repented the pillage and all the destruction. Tears came to his eyes and sobbing he expressed his sadness. 'What a town this was! And we have allowed it to be destroyed'! His soul was full of sorrow. And in truth it was natural, so much did the horror of the situation exceed all limits." (End excerpts)

P.S. This eyewitness account appears in: Routh, C. R. N. They Saw It Happen in Europe 1450-1600 (1965).
