shows everything that is wrong with US Foreign policy. There is this obsession with demonizing Russia, to the extent where it really feels like the US wants to go to war. Mr. Rubio's performance today was unprofessional and uncalled for. He demanded that the secretary of state nominee call Putin a war criminal and anything short was unsatisfactory. I thought Rex Tillerson was very impressive today, as the ex-Exon CEO he seemed very wise and showed a deep knowledge of world affairs. When it came to Russia, he was very reasonable. Rex was tough on Russia by stating that what Russia did in Crimea and Ukraine deserved a tougher response than what the US responded with, he actually advocated some sort of defensive military moves. He stated that Putin's vision is to re-claim status of world power and that he needed to be kept in check. None of this seemed to be enough for Rubio. Rex Tillerson was very impressive IMO, here's a man with private sector experience (yeah the kind of people that know how to make things work and make things efficient) yet he was very very knowledgeable about the political arena and was very composed and thoughtful. When he said that we needed to be tough on Russia but try to lower the temperature and tensions, i thought it was the stuff of someone that is composed, a deep thinker and a guy we want as the top diplomat. Mr. Rubio wasn't satisfied though, anything short of calling Putin a thug or war criminal wasn't enough. How unprofessional is it to ask the nominee to be top diplomat to label Putin in such a way before even taking the spot? This can have serious repercussions... to have the nation's top diplomat utter such words about the leader of a world power. As far as Mr. Rubio's labeling of Putin as a war criminal because Putin has bombarded civilian buildings (presumably thinking enemy is hiding there) has Mr. Rubio forgotten the hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians the US has killed ('collateral damage') by bombing civilian buildings in Vietnam, Iraq, Serbia and other areas? Does Mr. Rubio believe both Bush's, Nixon, Johnson and even Clinton were war criminals? This was an utter disgrace by Senator Rubio today..
It's the neo-con foreign policy at work, which has only served to undermine the US. It's a shame too, because on domestic issues, Mr. Rubio was speaking my language. But neo-conservatism sees itself as a hawk over the world, as the "standard" of the INTL order and thus must regulate that entire order. To them, they can do no wrong, say no wrong and speak no wrong. Neo-conservatism, will destroy the United States of America if its left in tact. Ideologically, neo-conservatism is worse than Liberalism.
