Don't worry world, Canada will step in when the US goes rogue

This is the moment Canada has been waiting for, the chance to exert more influence among our partners now that the US is about to go rogue and do a 360(Russia, climate change, immigration, globalization) on the current world order. We're being looked to right now as one of the countries that is expected to step up and fill the void. Latvia and Ukraine are already asking us to talk the US into keeping the pressure up on Russia. That might prove impossible if Russia has blackmail on Trump. I believe Canada will come out of this period of time with a lot more goodwill and influence. During the Cold War we were a middle power. And thanks to Donald Trump Canada will become a world power, not based on military power but pragmatism and diplomacy.

 

What is important for Canada to do is to maintain a liberal presence, and influence. Now that the near-fascists have engulfed America with their extremist ideologies of isolationism, Canada maintaining a democratic presence being a neighbor will put pressure on the US. Panic has become more and more universal, causing freak incidents like Brexit to occur, and soon Germany may become more conservative, not to note France is already a far-right country. Staying democratic in times of panic -- basically showing a sense of calmness, is heavily being urged right now. If large countries like Canada can remain liberal or progressive, it can become role models for the rest of the countries thinking the UK, US, France, or Germany have made smart moves, when in actuality, they have not.

 

We are showing no signs of going the other way. We had Stephen Harper for 9 years. We already had our mini crisis. He lost the last election based on fear of immigrants. There are a few people in the conservatives leadership race who are embracing the trump style politics and they're polling worse than anyone so I'm not concerned. Populism doesn't work up here. Canada prides itself on not being like the US. I think that will protect us.
