Woefully unprepared for the job of Education Secretary. Got an F at her hearing. Has zero experience in public education, never attended a public school, kept her kids away from public schools. Doesn't understand basic educational goals, doesn't understand growth vs. proficiency. Thinks we need more religion in our schools, thinks they should be used to "advance God's Kingdom."

Bernie Sanders cuts to the chase: "If you and your family hadn't given $200 million to the GOP, do you think you would be sitting here today?"

 

One hopes her response would have been... If we had given you $200 million dollars would we still expect to see you sitting where you are today Senator Sanders?

 

Good for Betsy. Get rid of the insiders. The American education system needs an enema.

Do Bernie's grand-kids go to public schools? I'm fine with Public School, and public school should be one of the choices available to parents. I thought Bernie was pro-choice, or is he only for the one "choice" of sucking living babies down sinks?

DeVos apparently just mentioned that she wouldn't be opposed to guns in schools:

DeVos: That is best left to locales and states to decide. If the underlying question is —

DeVos: I will refer back to (Wyoming) Senator (Mike) Enzi and the school he was talking about in Wyoming. I think probably there, I would imagine that there is probably a gun in the schools to protect from potential grizzlies.

Murphy: If President Trump moves forward with his plan to ban gun free school zones, will you support that?

DeVos: I will support what the president-elect does. If the question is around gun violence and the results of that, please know that my heart bleeds and is broken for those families that have lost any individual due to gun violence.

Murphy: I look forward to working with you, but I also look forward to you coming to Connecticut to talk about the role of guns in schools."

Dismantle public schools, promote private schools and guns in schools, is this what we have to look forward to?

The federal government should stay out of state and local matters. The more Federal involvement, the worse our kids fair against the rest of the world. Do you want our kids to keep failing to compete with the rest of the world? That's what you geniuses did to our education system. The more Federal spending, the worse the results. Common Core is garbage imposed on kids by unaccountable bureaucrats.

 

Do you really want that? No more second amendment rights for anyone because the constitution only applies to the federal level. No more free speech protections, no more federal aid to the states, so Mississippi, one of the poorest states in the union can continue being poor because it lacks access to the credit it would otherwise have if there was federal spending there. Federal involvement actually does a lot of good.

No. No for so many reasons, mainly because education has been a local issue. Our funding system is based on communities providing the funds. Good for rich communities, not so much for the poorer ones.

State and local school boards are easily taken over by extremists, as we've seen in Texas and other places.
Say what you want about America's schools, but letting an inexperienced billionaire with a religious agenda buy her way into being in charge is not the answer.

It was part of America to have the IRS audit people who disagreed with the ruler and slow walk applications for tax free expression of American values the ruler didn't share. Your America must be where a reporter who works for the wrong network is investigated by the Department of Justice and where the NSA ruler can exercise a general warrant, running surveillance on the general public and lying about it under oath in Congress without consequences

I have no idea where that even came from. I blame a lot of things because any one thing problem wasn't the problem but them all working together created the problem. Also, do you really want to make that deflection argument as you end up pointing the finger at some far away distant federal government in Washington DC for your local schools' problems.

 

Education was far better in this country before the Department of Education was founded in 1979. All in all, education is in a deplorable state, especially in big Democrat run black neighborhoods.

 

Yes, education was much better when there was separate but equal education.
