It's a great feeling to make that last payment.

Most of the time, I tell myself I'll keep my car and pay it off...but then I see a newer one, or one with some options or color I like...and I end up trading in, and starting over.

I do however have a Dodge Ram that I use in the Winter, that I actually kept for the entire note. I have been driving it for years now without a payment. It's a great feeling. ( although I've had to replace so many parts now that at times it feels like I'm still making one lol). It has a little rust coming in over the rear wheels, which seems a common issue with that year, but other than that looks great, and atm (knock on wood) is running great. I'm hoping to get a few more years out of it, as my car isn't good in the Winter so I need the Truck.

Congrats Chris, it's a good feeling to shed the car payment!

Nice! What kind of car is it?

By the way, I've only got $308,000 more to go on my mortgage!

I know. They sure don't make cars like they used to, do they? I see cars from the 1950s at car shows that still run!

Nothing better than no car payments. You should put some of that new money in the bank monthly for maintenance.

I have a sports car I bought in 06 and it is paid off.

Actually, there are a couple of little things that I should get fixed on the car now, and I want to have the interior cleaned professionally. I could probably use some new tires too.

Impalas are good cars. They can take a lot of miles and have good pick up. For whatever reason, I have gotten them almost every time I have rented a car.

Do you drive in winter weather? People swear by Continental DWS tires for an all season tire. I put them on my sports car in case I ever have to drive in snow because the summer performance tires would not let me move my car in an inch of snow. They are great in both rain and snow. Read the reviews.

It's an okay car. It has some problems with some sensor though. That's what the mechanic told me and he "fixed" it so that the idiot light turned off when I had to have the car inspected. So, that is something I should have fixed ASAP probably.

Well, I live in Massachusetts, so of course. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. Are they very expensive?

    Nice color choice.

    I drive a 2015 RAV4, which I greatly enjoy.

I wanted a color least likely to show dirt. It was either blue, red, white, or gray.

Meh. I drove two years with the check engine light glowing. When the flashing red Service Engine light came on, I knew it was time to chug into the garage.....It only took them like 4 visits in 3 weeks to finally make everything right again. In all fairness though, it was really like two trips since the second trip was because they left the spark plug wires laying against the exhaust on trip 1 which caused them to melt and trip 4 was because they gave me the car back to have over the weekend on Trip 3 since it was running well enough to not be stranded but still needed further work. The codes it was throwing were all over the place so they had to chase the problems with trial and error.

Tire rack has them for about 113 apiece. You can get cheaper tires but read the forums and reviews on the tire you choose to see if they are right for your situation. Start that maintenance fund if you are going to keep your car for a long time.

Hmm... that's like one of the #1 reasons why I choose a car color, too.

I used to own a car, but I tried leasing about 6 years, and I just find it so easy to just trade in a car after a few years with a brand new one. I haven't been to the auto shop for anything more than an oil change in 16 years!

Still, I suppose nothing beats that feeling of knowing something is MINE!

When I was doing rental car traveling I often preferred the impala because it fit me well and was comfortable.

That's awesome! Congratulations! I'm fearing having to take on another care payment. I'm at 112k miles right now, and my girlfriend is at the 180k :(

    Great!

Now take $400 of that money and put in an IRA and the other $200 in an emergency fund. Assuming a 5% return and no major problems at the end of the year you'll have:

    About
    $5200 in the IRA
$2500 in the emergency fund and
At least $500 in tax savings.

    OP

I confidently predict that someone (probably from the antipodes - no names, no pack-drill but Scarlet Witch will know who I mean? ) will ask why you're making Facebook posts.

Pretty sure people still die in car crashes. :) In fact, I would be willing to say car accidents are one of the #1 causes of death in America.
