Has this election fundamentally changed how Americans discuss politics?

    So, this thought process was inspired by this article: Are Americans Afraid of Talking Politics

    She goes into an interesting comparison between British and American society's approaches to discussing political issues.

    While it's more commonplace and public in England, she argues that in the US it's something discussed among close friends, family, or in a home setting.

    However, as someone who lived in NYC during this election, I have had conversations about Trump, Obama, Hillary, Bernie, and the multiple policies they were planning on enforcing almost continuously.

    The issues with declaring your political leanings and having these discussions out in the open seemed to have disappeared.

    Do you think this is temporary? Or is it a new era in American political discourse pushed through by technology, media, or just a change in temperament?
