They've been having shows on for most of the days. I don't mean to make a political thread. The board is charged up enough as it is. I wanted to make a casual thread about the musical performances going on today and tomorrow. I've been watching for a few hours today, although I did have to search for a live stream on YouTube that cut out the political commentary, but I have to say this has been one hell of a show so far. Everyone has done very nicely. I've been a fan of most of it and I was especially happy to see Three Doors Down rock the National Mall (but I was a fan previously and had seen them live so I'm biased). What do you think of the non-political side of the inauguration so far?
It's ok, I guess. I'm not a big fan of country music, but 3 doors down was good. If they could have gotten Metallica to play, this would have been the greatest inauguration that has ever been or will ever be. They would have to play "Don't Tread on Me" and "Motorbreath."
Metallica definitely would have been cool. I'm not a country fan either but I did like some of the performances. Toby Keith did great. I'm not really sure what to call the Piano Guys but what they did was pretty cool. Didn't know you could manipulate a piano like they did. Lee Greenwood did pretty good with that one song everyone knows and I have to congratulate all the military bands - well done!
They're all good musicians and performers, and I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed the show. I kind of liked the people in the powdered wigs playing piccolos, or whatever those were. I'm not going to look for the album or anything, but it was a traditional/cultural thing that you don't see very often.
Definitely! That's about the point where I had started watching. I saw them and being a history student their garb really intrigued me. The only thing I found odd was the color RED. Why red? Red was the color mostly used by the British forces in the Revolutionary War. Wouldn't patriot blue have been a better choice? Still I did enjoy their drum and fife performance.
I asked myself the same thing about the red uniforms. Solidarity with Brexit, or just easier to see from a distance? Who knows.
Sorry to say but I doubt it. The news was too busy talking over it. Pundits, and people arguing, etc. Really wasn't as dazzling as the show.
Here's some of it. 23:55 starts the Old Drum/Fife Corps in colonial dress. Pretty cool. Probably the most impressive display out of the entire night.
