The last I saw (earlier today), 68 Representatives--all of them Democrats--had announced intentions to boycott the Inauguration tomorrow (January20).

I really do not think this speaks well of them.

One may disagree--even deeply--with the proposed policies of the incoming president, and yet still respect the office of the presidency.

This shows serious disrespect for that office.

And it shows no regard, whatsoever, for the tradition, in this country, of the peaceful transfer of power.

    Sad.

I wish they'd boycott the congress, too.. and boycott their paychecks, and all the juicy perks the taxpayers provide them. And boycott the media & stop droning on & on forever about their hurt feelings for not winning the presidency..

They are making the mistake of thinking anyone cares. Obama made the same mistake when he came out repeatedly and begged people to vote for Clinton.

Your right about the office of the President, but keep in mind, eight years ago on the very night of Obama's Inauguration GOP leaders met and decided to oppose by design everything Obama proposed or did, and then they went out and executed that plan to perfection. Combine that with all the personal attacks and conspiratorial innuendos perpetuated and it is easy to understand why some Democrats feel respecting the office of President has become partisan

I don't think anybody really cares if they go or not, but yeah, it does make them seem small. "Hillary didn't win, so I'm not going. Boo hoo." Real mature.

Good for them. It's not a mandatory (at least not yet) event. Why continue a tradition like "respecting the office of the presidency" when the Republicans refuse to reciprocate?

Hopefully this signals a more confrontational and proactive approach by Democrats to mitigate the damage done by a Trump presidency with the power of Congress behind him.

Exactly right ! I really could care less if these Democrats jump in the river and float out to sea , but make no mistake about it , had Republicans boycotted Obama Democrats would be screaming their favorite word . RACISTS ! Unfortunately for Democrats, they are irrelevant. So kickand scream all you want , I enjoy watching you guys breakdown.

How many Republicans in the US Congress boycotted Obama's inaugurations in 2008 and 2012 and then proudly appeared on CNN to brag about it? It was none they all showed up.

Not 1 Republican boycotted Obama's inauguration. The Republicans at the very least respected the office, maybe not the man.
And 8 years before that Democrats opposed everything GW Bush said or did, it's called politics. By the way what you see as a perfectly executed plan, I say it was massive failure, Obama got everything he wanted. The Republicans in Congress obstructed 1 SCOTUS nominee, while I add that was important, the evil plan by the Republicans can hardly be construed as expertly executed.

Be careful what you wish for.
The last time an inauguration was boycotted by this many Democrats was for Lincoln and followed shortly thereafter by the Civil War.

Democrats: Throwing a baby tantrum about not going to a party nobody wanted them at.

Republicans: Only sent the invite in the first place because it was the polite thing to do.

Yeah but a new one would take a week.

Hell, I'm hoping California secedes. I doubt they'd get much opposition from the rest of the US.

Do you have proof of this?

Or is it just possible that the Republicans (who are usually conservative) opposed, on principle, the liberal policies of Barack Obama?

What "personal attacks and conspiratorial innuendos," exactly, came from Republican officeholders?

As best as I can recall, no Republican congresspeople boycotted Barack Obama in January of 2009 (when he first assumed office), or in January of 2013 (when he again took the oath of office).

Do you remember something that I do not?

In other words, what you appear to favor is a sort of civil war; no, not complete with bayonets and cannons (as happened over 150 years ago), but the tearing apart of our nation, nonetheless.

I'm glad these sour-mouthed, whining morons are not going to the inauguration. They all need to go to one of their designated "menstruation huts", like MSNBC, CNN, or one of the other hyperliberal propaganda mills where they can moan and b!tch to their hearts' content....

You confuse "respecting" our constitutional election system and submitting on legislation. Republicans refused to be submissive to much of Obama's legislation, but they attended the inauguration, none said "Obama is not president" and none said he was not legitimately becoming president because they disagreed with his agenda, statements and legislative goals.

It was such conduct, such tantrums, and such juvenile partisanship all for grand standing at the core of Clinton losing and Democrats getting smashed. However, the boycotting Democrats are in safe districts for which they probably figure the more Democrats the cause to lose the more important they become in the party as it shrinks.

If so that's a hell of a long wall we'd need to build! But at least then it would be constitutionally allowed to do.
