My name is Mike, I've been watching these forums for quite a while and figured I'd finally jump in. I've been in the US government sector for over 22 years, both military and federal employee. I consider myself a slightly right conservative. Yes I voted for Trump...not one of my proudest moments in the voting booth, but nonetheless I voted for him because I sure wasn't voting for Hillary. I am glad Obama is out of office, but I worry a little bit about the next four years as well. I like some of the things that Trump says, just not how he says them or gets them across. I, too, am surprised he won.

Obama was a failed president in most areas, although I'll give him a few credits for a couple things. He was horrible at race relations, if anything, he made them worse. I can't stand hard corps liberals, they make no sense. They're against killing of those on death row but have no problem taking the life of a beating heart from a womans womb. Many more examples, not enough time.

But this is me, this is just a fraction of what I stand for. I tell it like it is. I run a republican style life where the majority wins, not the minority (and no I'm not referring to color of skin in this comment). I won't change something just because the minority is offended. My fellow conservatives know what I mean. Let's get busy, see you in the forums.

Welcome. Pick out some active threads and start posting. Read the rules - stay out of trouble. ;-)
Trump is a very radical antiestablishment populist - he does not fit on a left/right political spectrum. The "slightly right", slightly left and the hard left could all vote for him. Steve Hayes could not. :) Good luck

Welcome! That's a nice introduction... honest and straight forward.
I'm not American, by the way, but nevertheless I, too, would favor Trump over Hillary. I hope and pray "they" will not kill him! He could truly change the world. I see Europe is changing, too. Hope is rising everywhere.

I wish you much enjoyment here in the forum!

Your need to couch this in such loaded terms says much. "Liberals" (and many other reasonable people besides) recognize that women should have control over their bodies even where pregnancy is concerned.

Hello and welcome. I am new as well. I agree with you about some of the issues you mentioned; the death penalty is sometimes necessary, and abortion is immoral. However, I disagree with you when you say "[Obama] was horrible at race relations, if anything, he made them worse". I believe that a lot of progress has been made in race relations in the last 8 years and Obama deserves a lot of the credit. Regrettably, Trump has brought out the worst in a segment of the White community which feels threatened by the empowerment of non-White racial groups, particularly indigenous Mexican Amerindians. I fear that race relations will deteriorate, but only temporarily. The tide cannot be turned now. Younger people are more racially diverse and liberal, and that nation is definitely headed in the right direction in terms of racial demographics.

I know I'm risking being burned at the stake by saying this, but I sometimes find myself agreeing with them on certain points.

Both political parties have demonstrated the ability to be correct on some matters, but incorrect on others. If true bipartisanship could be had, and party ideologies and loyalties abandoned in favor of what is truly common sense, much progress could be made.

Instead what is being presented, is efforts at pandering to special interest voting bases, and looking into how to commit the most harm to the opposing political party once one is in power.

I suppose we could accomplish this if the existing political power structure were dismantled. That would give us all both an opportunity and a need to engage in dialogue. Not having goofy elections every couple of years, but having to negotiate and compromise instead of just cast votes for one extreme position or the other, would allow and force people to settle down and behave like adults.
