The Polls, reliable?

On Nov 8th the NYT published Latest Election Polls 2016 which reflected Hillary 45.6, Trump 42.8., which was consistent with national poll averages for weeks leading up the election. Later that evening the media gleefully began reporting exit polling showing Hillary well ahead. Then, on Nov 9 we learned most all the polls had missed it, they'd been wrong & the media glee turned to a mix of shock, rage, dismay & confusion.
Yet, here we are today with lead stories based on many of the same polls saying Trump has the lowest approval rating of any president entering the oval office & no one seems to be questioning it. Now, maybe it's just me, but doesn't that seem a bit odd? A month and half ago it became obvious Poll number aren't settled science, but today they're being used as if they are with no skepticism at all? Interesting.

 

I think we have a 'brexit' like scenario. The bully left, with the media loudspeakers, phony narratives, & attack dog mentality, provide 'opinion polls' for the common man. So the common man, happy to please the pollster, tells him what he wants to hear, then merrily goes on his way, & votes by his real opinion, which has no real bearing on the polls.

 

Of course the polls are accurate!

Never have believed these polls as they tend to report what a certain group the ones who pay them to take the poll. They can be rigged in any way that a particular group wants them to be.

As recently demonstrated, the only polls that count are the final tallies on election day.

 

Those shots of her coming down the walkway before entering onto the platform were priceless. She looked like she'd just had a bad experience at dentist office.

 

exactly. That's why it seems odd, after what we've just been through, the media is back to touting poll results as gospel.

 

What I'm enjoying is watching the real sense of finality sink in amongst the liberals. So many of yesterdays women protesters went to bed confident Trump would today be grovelling, begging forgiveness ... Sooo accustomed to spineless Barry, apologist in chief, they must be dumbfounded by Trumps indifference ... Bravo Mr. president, bravo!

 

The polls were woeful. The only poll that was even in the ballpark was the LA Times "state by state" polls. They did something a little different, eliminating some sampling error by correction depending on respondents party affiliation, used a weighted average correction tool. The only wild card was how independents would vote, and there's a pile of them. We'll never know how many illegals voted in states like CA.

 

Liberal allegiance to their Hollywood, NYC entertainment icons, media elite and spokesmen in the mold of Micheal Moore have alienated themselves from a vast swath of the country. They've become the party of unrestrained, irrationally emotion charged incivility and spite. They are ugly American's.

Polls will continue to show everyone hates Trump and wish he would just die for the foreseeable future. Doesn't matter what goes on in the real world the polls are already set in stone.

 

About two week before the presidential election it was revealed that all the polling companies except Rasmussen donated heavily to the DNC and almost not at all to the RNC. The writing was on the wall, especially since it was an open secret that the majority of polling companies were heavy weighting with Dem Party respondents. So the poll numbers were phony then and I have seen nothing since then to make me thing that any of these BOUGHT AND PAID FOR companies have cleaned up their act. So no, the polls are not trustworthy.

 

Polls are just that - polls. BTW, your own example above has Clinton at 45.6 and Trump at 42.8 - a difference of 2.8 in favor of Clinton. The actual vote total was a difference of 2.1 in favor of Clinton. In effect, some final national polls were closer than some thought.

Polling is not a perfect science, I think most reasonable people can agree on that. Elections have been "missed' before, some quite badly. I think the polling information is okay as an indicator but I'd never bet the farm on it. You know, the weather guys mess up now and again as well - does this mean we never watch or consider a forecast ever again? Of course not, not unless folks are morons........

The polls run by the lying media cant be trusted. Hillary shouldnt have trusted them either, since they are partly to blame for her defeat.

We await the day that the MSM reports the truth.

The problem is a lot of the posters in this thread just plain uneducated and ignorant the polls actually were good in that Clinton won the popular vote that's what the polls polled nobody ever pulled the electors

 

In the days leading up to the election nearly every network's election coverage included an electoral college map and pretty much all agreed Trump had almost no reasonable "path" to win. They didn't pull that out of their ass, they based their conclusions on national & State polls. And, I'm not sure what you're talking about saying "nobody ever pulled [polled] the electors". Why would they? There wasn't any purpose to poll electors before the election.

 

I think it pretty obvious that the the people In NYC, LA, and SF pretty much despise Trump. I do not think it matters
