Many times during and before the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump said that the USA should have taken Iraq's oil during the Invasion of Iraq. He said it would have been justified spoils of war. He said to the CIA a few days ago, that we should have taken their oil and we migh get another chance. Should the USA re-invade Iraq and take their oil?
Under International Law, the US (and Britain et al) were entitled to War Reparations, which Iraq would have paid via oil sales on the global market..
My goodness right wingers are going to have their hands full making excuses for this joke of a president.
Re-invading is a different question than what should have been done at the time. He is correct in that the oil financed the formation of ISIS. Now seizing the oil wouldn't be enough because the rise of ISIS was not avoided.
Wouldn't the insurgents simply demolish the wells and blow up the pipelines to stop America and the West getting their hands on the oil?
We might just as well...burn down the barn while we clean the house. I don't suppose we need to pay attention to international law anymore.
Under international law, it is illegal to confiscate natural resources of an occupied country. such would be a war crime. The oil of Iraq belongs to the people of Iraq, and anyone withdrawing and taking ownership of their oil without the expressed consent of the Iraq govt, would be guilty of a war crime.
I think something big is brewing in the Mid-East. A contractor cop friend is being sent with many other guys to A-Stan. I imagine the very least Trump will do is flatten any and all oil infrastructure in Iraqi bad guy territory.
You and the Snowflake Brigades should go on a diplomatic mission to IS territory and lecture them on climate change and LGBT rights.
Fossil fuels are natures blessing to the human race. Who imagines were we still using horses, were we to have grown up surrounded by windmills, perhaps to not know much about electricity that we could have prospered? Keep in mind those all over America, we who are current or past pile drivers, set up the foundations for those remarkable buildings you thrive in and by golly we used a lot of diesel.
Are you in the habit of replying with completely inane insults? ..............Oh........nevermind, looked at you post history.........stupid question.
What I would appreciate since the Iraq oil is nationalized is for Iraq to step up to the plate and give us a lot of cash. For their freedom, our people died. Even if they won't pay for the war, the good in Iraq ought to enter a deal where they pay large sums to the vets of that war who fought for their freedom. We gave it to them. Can they keep it?
I would politely ask Ashley Judd if I could take Iraq's oil first. That lady who closely resembles a female dog needs to be feared. /.
Trump might help Iraq recover freedom again. It is not a wise idea to flatten the oil industry there.
Fat chance that anybody will get back into Iraq and confiscate their oil. But what I admire about Trump is he quit putting Egypt first, and now thinks mostly of we the people of the USA. What a welcome rush of fresh air.
They were useful to our time, but expanding the fossil fuel use at present day is dumb and dangerous. Countries in Europe are now making profit off of wind and solar, it's time to switch over and make it happen.
Frankly there is a good chance that is simple thinking than complex thinking. Say you get rid of fossil fuel. Who is now your master? Government? I do not want Government to be my master. So who is forcing out of fossil Fuels? You guessed it, Government.
What kind of psychotic thoughts come into your mind when debating these issues? Fossil fuels are killing us, we have better methods, money making methods, by switching over to renewable energy. How, in any way, does that make government the master? Hint....our government owns NONE of the extracted fossil fuels, corporations do. Likewise, would be the same for another form of energy.
Surely, you can show us this law. Also, it appears you didn't understand what I said, which is that the US is entitled to War Reparations, and the Iraqis would pay for the Reparations mostly through oil sales. You might want to familiarize yourself with the 2001 International Law Commission Draft Articles on Responsibility of States for Internationally Wrongful Acts
We don't plunder nations, and besides, Iraq's oil isn't worth the trouble. Canada's oil might be worth it, but not Iraq's. Just kidding, just kidding!
