    I am concerned!

Our part of Australia (Southwest) has always been a sought after area, but lately the visitor numbers, especially from overseas, are declining.

If you had ever been to Australia, what was it you'd enjoyed and what was it you didn't like?

Please speak openly, as I plan to give our Shire President a copy of this thread.

    Many thanks

I doubt it’s anything to do with not liking the place. Australia is a big and expensive trip from many populous parts of the world and economies are still tight everywhere. I think a lot of people will still be holidaying closer to home (if at all) and the puts a destination that is somewhat geographically remote at a disadvantage.

Yes but they are all staying on the EAST coast because that is where the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House are

West Coast is more about some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the world - and nice people of course!!! :D

What's not to like besides the hundreds of lethal insects, reptiles and plants? Thanks all the same I'll continue my Australian journeys via the National Geographic channel.

Head west? You already live so far past the "Black Stump" it's incredible. I have a friend in Cloncurry. She said the other day she had to drive "to town" to see a specialist. I said, Oh in Mt Isa, she said "No, into Townsville". (10 hours...904km/562 miles)

Mt Isa has a population of app 21k people (app the same size as the small rural town I live in) and is the largest "Town" in a 1000km radius.

YOU ARE "OUT WEST"...LOL but I understand what you mean

Do you have any evidence that the number of people going to WA has decreased at the same time as the numbers to Australia have gone up? If you do then it indicates a local problem. A campaign to get international (and domestic) visitors to see the highlights of WA, like the hundreds of lethal insects, reptiles and plants.

They probably are wrong. I would trust the ABS figures to be accurate. There are many reasons why the people you talk to are wrong.

    Hmmm,
I see it the complete opposite way.
Numbers by any governmental office also reflect on the governments performance, sorry I wouldn't trust them at all.
People I know for years, why should they lie to me (out of a sudden)?
    And in such numbers?
    Very unlikely!
Maybe the answer could be different regions?
    Regards

No dramas with numbers up here in NQ Cats. Most tourism operators are going pretty good. Huge numbers of Chinese tourists.

The industry is still recovering from some pretty tough times when the dollar reached parity, but it really is starting to pick up.

I suggest it may be localised, and that could change in a flash.

This post is garbage. The ABS publishing false stats would be a huge story. It could different regions or maybe the businesses are not doing as well as what they want to do, even though they are doing better than last year. Or maybe international tourists are only a small fraction of their trade?

Just a note I think you might appreciate on this issue. Several years ago, I spoke to a tourist who while travelling the US, in a travel agency found a 7 day tour of a town called West Wyalong.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Wyalong

If you have ever been to West Wyalong, you may ask the same question I do, WHO is trying to rip off American tourists???

The police trying to censor Islamic terrorism eye witness accounts certainly doesn't help either.

No but a while ago a friend and I were camping on theNormanton road when a Combi van chokers with German tourists pull up. Now the Normanton road is one of those that only has one turn off every 2-300 k. Bless them. They aimed to drive across the top of Australia in a couple of weeks. I wet season

If it hasn't been defined on Jihadwatch.org I would say the answer is a resounding NO.
