    Evacuations ordered below Oroville Dam
(That's some 70 miles north of Sacramento.)

    Feb. 12, 2017, 7:09 p.m.

"This is not a Drill. Repeat this is not a drill,” the National Weather Service said Sunday, urging people living below Oroville Dam to evacuate. The evacuation was ordered because of a “hazardous situation” involving the Northern California dam's emergency spillway. The National Weather Service said the auxiliary spillway is expected to fail and could send an “uncontrolled release of flood waters from Lake Oroville.”

What of the Sacramento River Delta ecology?
Does the Greatest State of California have an EIR regarding this addition of water? :hmm:

Why not pipe some down to Salton Sea and piped Southern California reservoirs and lakes?
I bet Owen's Valley would be appreciative for water and not just being a water source for L.A.
The emptying of the Oroville Dam is such a waste of fresh water and to force Californians out of their homes on a Sunday evening makes me wanna rethink my Pro CalExit stance.

People in the area will be like "hope my house isn't destroyed".

Leftists will be like "global warming caused it".

Trump will be like "we're standing by to help".

Cali government will be like "more taxes will fix it".

Unions will be like "yey more tax dollars coming our way".

And I'm like "today I found out that LEGO dam breach videos are a thing".

I would hope that they are pumping the water away to other reservoirs and draining it as fast as they can. The more they get rid of, the less left to flood the towns and the less likely the dam is to break.

Any word on why the dam is failing? Design? Construction? Earthquakes? Erosion?

    Never!

My home is secure on a hill with lots of drains.
I have a front yard with a garden and likewise a back yard with line of sight to the ocean about a mile away.

You are dealing with California, liberals and Jerry Brown.

I think it was on Fridays the liberals in Sacramento said the drought is still in affect and you are still required taking three minute showers or the PC water police will kick down your front door.

Every bill for the past thirty years the Republicans in Sacramento has introduced to build more dams to collect California's rain fall, the liberal Democrats voted the bills down saying California has more important issues to deal with like supporting illegal aliens.

Riddle me this batman: Does Governor Moonbeam have his bloated pensioners dispatched in full force de jure to save the endangered Delta smelt? What with all this rain and all they might get washed away--it's wet out there--and they're fish!

All that fresh water from the Oroville Dam should have required an EIR with attention paid to the court protected endangered Delta Smelt. I agree.

Crisis at Oroville Dam eases somewhat, but officials say danger remains

As more than 100,000 people were ordered to flee to higher ground, officials said Sunday that the crisis at the Oroville Dam had eased somewhat as the water level at the reservoir dropped.

That halted water flow from a damaged emergency spillway that officials feared could collapse.

But officials stressed the situation is still dangerous and that evacuations should continue.

Here's where the evacuations have been ordered:

    39,000 Butte County

    65,000 Yuba County

    76,000 Yuba City

    12,000 Marysville

Oroville is an earthen dam. The main spillway is earthen and it experienced erosion so they opened the EMERGENCY spillway which is essentially side outlet. That spillway eroded as well and the threat is that the whole spillway will collapse and send a 35' wall of water down into the Feather River which runs through populated, low lying land...hence the evacuations. Officials say the dam itself is not in danger of collapsing however with water flow erosion in the main spillway and the emergency spillway, undermining could cause even more damage. The dam itself is some 700 feet tall. If THAT goes all bets are off.

The area in question is mostly agricultural and conservative. CA is quite large, please don't judge us by SF and LA.

I am not clear there is a pipeline from the Oroville dam that gets to Southern CA.

You know by now how much Democrats despise pipeline projects.

The reservoir is piped in to the California fresh water system.
    It was built for that.

I just learned that a half hour ago. After posting my comment. That earthen dam is the nations highest dam. A lot can go wrong since it is dirt being washed away.

A fairly fast fix is to dump in bentonite. It is wonderful for shutting down water flows.

When Californians ask for Federal Disaster Funds to help with the crises Trump will respond... "I'm sorry, but I'm not your president."

yes i know that the northern areas are much more conservative and farmers and ranchers have put trump signs along the highway during the election i seen them along i-5 their, but they will have to realize that they wont get funded because. the overall state of cally will benefit from those relief funds and trump knows that.:blankstare:

One thing all our open border friends seem to forget is NOT about how much land we have, but how much WATER we have. It doesn't matter how many people can physically live here, if we can't (*)(*)(*)(*)ing survive because we have to share the dwindling water supply. Sure, we can cut water off at times, reduce pressure to extremes, but why should EVERYONE's quality of life change just to let in millions of people we don't need in the first place? FL is going to suffer soon if something isn't done. We're building TOO MUCH and homes are too close together when they don't need to be. We can have more land, if city planners would just stop allowing builders to make everything zero lot line. We don't NEED so many people.

If I remember correctly this reservoir has been held to half it's capacity due to deferred maintenance. $200 million was needed for repairs.

Build the high speed train for billions, nothing for dams......

    Seriously F'd up state.

    Cheers
