So, the cupcake students in Wisconsin think blacks deserve free tuition because of slavery? Refresh my memory..........were there slaves in Wisconsin? How many college students have been slaves? http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/storie...ME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2017-02-16-11-51-52
Easy enough, if any student can show documentation that they were slaves, then they should get free tuition. Let's even take it a step further, if they can document that their parents or grandparents were slaves, they get free tuition! I think that's more than fair.
I'd bet all my money that 99% of those Wisconsin students are all white students, who grew up in all white communities, and never, ever even met a black person in their entire lives. And because of that, they feel certain that as the white Progressives they are, they must do everything they can for all African-Americans.
Then I would have all of your money because there are many African Americans in Wisconsin, especially in cities like Madison and Milwaukee. Sure there are mostly whites in the rural areas but the same can be said for the rural areas of any state. Stating that these students have never seen a black person before is painting with a broad brush, to say the least. I do not agree that there should be free tuition based solely on someone's race, however; if you are going to give one race free tuition then you may as well have free tuition for all.
Wisconsin: Black population, 6.07% (a whopping 359,149) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_African-American_population
This. In my experience, the ones who cry about "white privilege" the most and take their SJW role the most seriously are the ones who grew up in very privileged environments, never needing to work hard for anything. They later feel they have to make up for their comfortable living by doing their part to help out those who were not as comfortable. Bill Ayers is a great example of this. Spoiled rich kid turned 60's revolutionary communist. What a joke.
well Blacks demanded that they get more academy awards and presto, like magic they did. So this is not far fetched, affirmative action Oscars, affirmative action tuition, heck we had an affirmative action president. Skies the limit
Yep, I wouldn't write anything off as too absurd when it comes to these left-wing social goals. A lot of angry minorities want stuff, and apologetic left-wing whites can't seem to bend over backwards fast enough to give it to them (in exchange for votes, of course).
Apologetic left wing whites. If you think about it, they're apologizing because they're white which they believe gives them superiority, hence white supremacy. They think they're better than minorities for no other reason than being born white and they're the ones who will call other people racists for not feeling guilty.
It's called "Passover syndrome". They're not willing to give up anything personally to assuage their own feelings of guilt, so they offer up us unenlightened whites who aren't part of the program.
It shouldn't be just descendants of Wisconsin slaves but also descendants of native Americans getting free tuition. Come to think of it why shouldn't we give everyone free tuition?
I guess it's not enough that we gave them free pre-natal care, WIC after they are born, put them on Medicaid to take care of their medical, send them to pre-school day care, supplied them with free lunches all through school, provided after school day care, free bus transportation, send them a Welfare check every month, provide monthly Food Stamps, provide free school books and hand them free school supplies from donations, take up donations for them so they can have coats, open up food banks so they can supplement their food stamps, give them Section 8 housing, supply them with free birth control or abortions if needed, provide assistance for utility bills, provide free legal aide, give them preference for college admission. They grow up wearing the latest designer fad clothes and shoes, latest I-phones, nicest cars. I wonder who supplied them? Yep, it's hard being black in America.
The university should send a letter to all the parents who are supporting their children at the university and tell them that they have adopted this policy. Tell them there will be tuition increases to cover the costs, of course. See how well that goes over. This was interesting. Quoting from the article the OP linked to ...
Lol @ UW Madison! I live in Wisconsin, South Eastern. Madison & Milwaukee are by far, the most liberal, ... Nearly Socialist... Areas of the state.
These losers ought to be happy they're even allowed on campus. Most are barely literate and have to take remedial classes to help their reading, comprehension, and all the things they should have learned in junior high school. It'll be interesting to find out (if future studies are done) how many of these kids actually benefitted from going to college. Imo, the best thing we could do for these lazy ingrates who are forever "demanding" more free stuff, is to deny what they're asking for. Make them get a freaking job and pay their own stinking way, for a change. THAT would be something worth learning.
Legally? Yup. Nobody can argue that you're not the race you claim....at least not anyone in govt or govt regulated. Only native Americans can be made to show proof in some circumstances. - - - Updated - - - We should.
There's a big difference in looking at a number on Wikipedia for a state you've never experienced compared to actually living in the state's urban areas. The majority of Wisconsin's entire population lives in Milwaukee, Madison, Racine and Kenosha. Those cities also have a much higher concentration of African Americans, therefore, the vast majority of the Wisconsin population that are not African American are in constant contact with African Americans. If you visit these cities you will not have the sense that there are no African Americans because they are everywhere; does that mean that we have just as many African Americans as a state like Mississippi? Absolutely not, but it's the perception within these areas that matters. I spent a year in D.C. for example where a little over half of the entire population is black; when I arrived there I didn't get the sense that there was a ton more black people around, it felt about the same as Milwaukee for me in that regaurd.
I agree ,free tuition for one race is unacceptable...but I really don't think free tuition for all would keep them happy either
From the article: "The university has proposed some measures aimed at improving diversity." They should do what my university did--bring in blacks and asians who weren't grad students to be photographed for the catalog to create the illusion that there were more than a couple of black students and no asians enrolled in that program.
