Pride is a failure of a subject recognize their contingency upon a sovereign. Arrogance is a failure of one to recognize their equality with equal. Pride happens between God and man. Arrogance happens between men. Arrogance is not completely unlike a shadow cast by pride. To the extent that one is left to believe that they have a libertarian (free will) relationship with God or no relationship at all, that one will be inclined to have authoritarian relationships with other men. To the extent that one recognizes their contingency upon God, they will be inclined to have libertarian relationships with other men.
