McCain nails it: Trump thinks he's King, or sure acts like it. The press is not the enemy of the American people, they hold gov't accountable. Trump is taking the first step all dictators take: control the press. The enemy is Fascism from the Oval Office.

McCain's way post senile. He's hanging onto that senate seat until they have to carry him out of there on his shield.

Speaking of consolidation of power, how about when a small cadre of news outlets (NY Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, etc.) become the official news of record and everything is filtered through them so that their lopsided left leaning view of the world becomes the "correct" view and all others are discredited or ignored?
Trump's hyperbole (the enemy) may be overblown but there is no doubt that the Government Approved Media doesn't report the news....they make it!
If they want you to know something they shape and define a story their way or ignore it altogether and it's as if it never happened.

John McCain has always been the left's favorite republican (except when he ran for president...dark days) precisely because of comments like this one from him. It's time he got off his little stage and took up shuffleboard full time under the Arizona sun where he can harm no one and his lunacy hurts, or helps, no one.

He's just an angry old fart who can't stand it that the party went with Trump and not with his RINO policies.

He's pure scum and a cancer on the Republican party.

So when a fellow Republican tells you the truth you call him '"scum and cancer" just because you cannot handle the truth?

The media has been hostile towards Trump since he started running. Such hostility makes the press his enemy, and its the media's own fault. McCain is a moron to not notice this, but then again that terrorist loving scumbag has been a moron for years now. The problem with McCain is he comes off as a total loser that criticizes Trump when he himself failed to win the White House...

So, you're saying that Obama did NOT have control and cooperation of the press?

To my knowledge, Obama did not attempt to control, intimidate, or disparage Drudge Report, The Blaze, Breitbart, etc. He recognized the role a free press plays in our democracy, and let them do their thing. Trump is taking an opposite path, previously traveled by all despots.

RWers are in no position to call others liars, let alone, claim media biased. Their persecution complex is long in the tooth, and their constant complaining only highlights their immaturity.

McCain is a voice of reason in a very radicalized Republican Party. Ronald Reagan wouldn't even make it through the Primary. Deep down, we all know that Trump is heading down the path that McCain describes - Dictator of the Free World, which is an oxymoron.

I agree. If anything, Obama was too lax about the Press. Even when FOX, Breitbart, and others were reporting lies about his character, he didn't respond much. The Birther Lie went on far too long. Also, he was compared to Castro, Hitler, etc, over and over. The Madrassa/Muslim lie continued to be aired, after proven false by multiple investigations. They even attacked Obama's father on multiple occasions, as if this had any impact on Barack, since he only met him once.

Funny I don't remember McCain speaking up when Obama used his power to stifle the press.

Seven examples of Obama's attacks on a free press spring to mind and not one of them drew any significant criticism from McCain.
Where was McCain when Fox News correspondent James Rosen was illegally followed around by Obama's Department of Justice in 2013 over a story he published on North Korean activities? It was a clear-cut example of reporters just doing their jobs, even as someone in government was leaking the story, but Team Obama went after Rosen with the Espionage Act.

Where was McCain when CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson's computer was being taken over and hacked in late 2012 by what were almost certainly Obama agents over her Benghazi scandal reporting? She described the still-unresolved incident in her book Stonewalled (which ought to give another clue about the Obama record on press freedoms) but her story about the computer hacking, which included planting classified documents and keystroke changings, certainly was disturbing. We didn't hear much from McCain.
Where was McCain when New York Times reporter James Risen was threatened with prosecution if he did not reveal his sources? Risen certainly thought Obama was acting like a dictator in a recent interview. McCain, not so much.
Where was McCain when Obama illegally wiretapped the communications systems of the Associated Press in 2013 bid to find out its sources? Nowhere to be found.
Where was McCain when radio show host Rush Limbaugh was attacked by Obama - in 2009 and 2012 for unfavorable commentary?
Where was McCain when Fox News was singled out for criticism by President Obama? This event was not only a blast at the outfit but highly inappropriate collaboration with Media Matters, which made Fox News its bugbear.
And where was McCain when Obama's spokesman John Kirby attacked a RT News correspondent at a 2016 White House press conference who asked an uncomfortable question on Syria, questioning its legitimacy as a press outfit? If the Russian state-funded press agency was that illegitimate, explain to us why it had a press pass issued by the White House at all? We heard nothing about it from McCain.

Lindsey Graham and John McCain are to extreme malcontented LOSERS who absolutely can not stand the Trump won where they got smashed.

The effeminate little twerp Lindsey Graham should made head of the DNC as he is the most vocal supporter the Democratic Party has. Demented bitter-loser 80-year-old John McCain should be co-chair of the DNC. The one true tragedy of this political season was Republicans re-nominated John McCain.

Lindsey Graham comes up for election in 4 years. Every Republican political gun should be turned on him in his primary to eliminate that malcontented little freak. McCain may not live to his next re-election campaign.

Interesting how so many Democrats on the forum now admit they have been a McCain supporter. With so many Democrats supporting him how did he lose his campaign for president?

If I were going to be a dictator, controlling information would be the first order of business. I would treat the populace like mushrooms, keep them in the dark and feed them (*)(*)(*)(*).

I found out about the Committee to Protect Journalists when someone posted a link to show where this organization criticized Obama for trying to shut down leaks of classified information during the Snowdon incident.

Here is a short excerpt of what they had to say about Trump even before the election.(my emphases)

Also keep them constantly in fear of "the enemy".

Among the (*)(*)(*)(*) to feed them be sure to include...
    • Support for "our religion"
    • Rebuild Industry
    • Bring back jobs
    • Better education
    • Barring / Expelling foreigners

Do you think people should listen to McCain just because he's a Republican? Many Trump supporters previously voted for Obama, and Romney. It's now clear that both parties are full of hucksters like McCain and Hillary, and that's why Trump won.

McCain's greatest flaw is that he will do anything for fawning press....which happens when he is at odds with Republicans and conservative principals. He views the media his special friends. Of course he's going to defend his friends.
