Chaos and rage in the imperial city:
Donald Trump and the US elite – it’s all about Russia!

The furious opposition President Trump has run into in the first month of his Presidency - and the turbulence in Washington it is causing - is the direct consequence of his wish to reverse US policy and seek detente with Russia.
    .....
The Trump administration’s problems over the first 30 days of its existence have been due less to the President’s working habits and more to the deliberate sabotage of his administration by his opponents.
    .....
Some of the sabotage is unquestionably the product of the anger and bafflement of the Democratic Party and its supporters that its anointed candidate – Hillary Clinton – lost the election to someone they mistakenly take for a clown.
    .....
However looming over everything is the collective horror of the US elite – not just the Democratic Party elite but also much of the Republican Party elite and of the foreign policy and defense establishment, the intelligence community and the news media – at the new President’s openly expressed desire for a rapprochement with Russia.
    .....
Russia has been so comprehensively demonized by the US elite and the US media for so long that many of its members have undoubtedly come to believe what they say and write about it.
    Etc.

    -----------
The colliding conflicts over peace with Russia will likely keep the hysteria and the chaos in Washington going until Trump either gives up or gets removed.
Why not give peace a chance? Russia is not the old regime anymore, it has undergone some drastic changes for a better and freer Russia.

We give Russia foreign aid and military assistance. Why should we fight them?

I think Trump's desire to get along with Russia when and where that's possible is disturbing to some in Permanent Washington... the warlike wing comprised of Dems and Republicans. They believe that the absence of war is "American weakness", and they define "American leadership" as swaggering around the world, threatening anyone who dares to disagree with us. They see the world as a chessboard. They are the Kings, Queens, Bishops, Knights, and Rooks. The people of the world, including those in our country, are the pawns which may be sacrificed for an advantage.

But I also think they are afraid of Trump because he didn't take bribe money to get elected. I think they are afraid that he will do - or try to do - what he said he would do... like push for term limits in Congress. They don't care that he promised to drain the swamp. What they care about is that he might have actually meant it.

And, he's not a part of The Club. The Club is hugely important to the D.C. Establishment. I think they are aghast that a non-club member got elected to the presidency. D.C. is a place where the politicians, bureaucrats, corporations, big donors, and the media are all married to each other, all benefiting from each other, all using each other, and very much trust and understand each other. No outsiders shall be welcomed into The Club.

    My two cents ... :oldman:

What I find disturbing is how the mainstream media refuses to point out the obvious and it's complete lack of objectivity.

Russia, the US, and many other countries have been hacking each other for decades. Is the Media ignorant of the fact that the US has been meddling in the affairs of other nations as a rule rather than exception. We have clown claims "Russia should be punished" go completely unchallenged by the obvious - "We do the same ... should we be punished too" ?

False narratives are the rule in the media. Is it Russia that is arming Islamist extremists/terrorists ? Is it Russia that is exporting this extremist ideology around the Globe ? Was it Russia that funded the 911 terrorists ? (or Iran for that matter) .... Nope ... that would be our good buddy Saudi Arabia.

Every human rights group on the planet is calling out Saud for war crimes in Yemen yet the media keeps silent because we are also involved in these war crimes as we are supporting Saud and participating in that mess.

We hear constant crying and whining about Crimea yet, we did the same thing to Serbia when Kosovo was annexed in the late 1990's. Further, it was US meddling in the Ukraine and NATO that caused the annexation of Crimea in the first place.

Any Journalist that knows anything about the situation knows this but ..... Silence.

I could go on and on giving example after example ... The mainstream media is completely controlled by the establishment elite ( the folks that own the banks, defense contractors, drug and oil companies and the corporations that own the mainstream media). The board of directors appoints the editors and they control the content that is allowed.

    Good writing.

Look at the foolhardiness of destroying Libya's government. And yet you never hear the MSM explaining what a boondoggle that was. We are never reminded that the Russians didn't vote against it in the U.N. because Obama promised them it would be nothing more than a no-fly zone. But we lied to them. It turned into an all-out bombing war, assassination of their head of state, leaving the country lawless and a breeding ground for extremists. And then the administration sought to do the same thing in Syria. And as governance dissolved in many parts of Syria, what replaced it? And what has the MSM portrayed to the U.S. populace? The government line, that's what. That Assad must go, and that he, and only he, is the evil dictator, and he, and only he, is responsible for everything that has happened there. That is utter BS.

Is it any wonder that Russia fights in Syria and grabbed Crimea? Are there understandable reasons why they would do that? Might we do those things if we were in their position?

But those questions are never asked or answered in Washington or the media. All we get from either is the narrative. Trump gets ridiculed for talking about "fake news" from the MSM, but is he right? We know that the press is tightly controlled in Russia, and all its people get is the government line. But how much better are we? The difference is that Putin can control his media with an iron fist. Our government and the U.S. media are simply married to each other, and it is a marriage made in heaven. But the result is the same, isn't it?

Another thing I find disturbing is the other entity that has joined The Club, and that is the education establishment. Rather than producing well-balanced graduates with good critical thinking skills, it churns out a bunch of drones. And who do you think the government admits into The Club?

I too could go on and on, but I'll spare you. You already get it.

    Cheers!

    Sure thing, Ivan....LOL.
Without all the tools of war the Soviets got from the U.S.(never mind the military contributions made by American forces in Europe) their usefulness in WW II would have been barely noticeable at all.

I am glad you brought up education. 12 years of school and we manage not to teach the "basics" of Philosophy (logic, logical fallacy, critical thinking, how to construct a valid argument, even learning what an argument is ?!).

How is a voter supposed to wade through the daily cacophony of fallacy and bad argument from the mass media and politicians if they do not have even the most basic tools? Another thing that is not taught are the basic principles on which this nation was founded (individual rights and freedoms/liberty, legitimacy of authority - what the legitimate powers of Gov't are and why, the social contract and so on)

It is very difficult for the average Joe to limit the power of Gov't (through his vote) if he has no clue about these basics.

I do think that the average Joe is starting to notice that his backside is being penetrated. The problem is that he does not know where it's coming from.

The USSR bought 15% of metal and machinery in Usa during the war. Bought! It isn't a help. It's a business. Usa kills millions of people worldwide , but fools believe that Usa helps.

Excellent points and I don't think it's any accident that critical thinking skills have been ignored in favor of teaching children to react emotionally
to any subject or problem (that's why if you disagree with people under a certain age they will term you a "hater" making any argument a subjective and emotional one instead of one of issues or facts). And who runs the educational establishment? Why, the left, of course!

That's why the DNC and the left will make all issues emotional ones primarily (like bringing out the Muslim parents of a soldier in an irrational attempt to emotionally exploit the issue at their convention when they were trying to condemn Trump's proposed tightening of immigration controls on people from the Middle East).

Ironically, the left's tiresome contention that conservatives are bereft of ideas and thoughts is belied by their (the left's) reliance on pure unthinking emotionalism in order to win over minds, which they aren't doing too well at lately. And, at any rate, one can legitimately claim that if it's at all true (the right
doesn't think very well) we can rightly point to the way children are raised now and point to that as a contributing reason why.

A conservative has to be "deprogrammed" for the most part and relearn how the world really is before he can ever reach the truth signified by his political conversion. A liberal doesn't have to do anything at all and the less he/she thinks the better.
Sorry if that all seems like a cliche....it's true!
    I know I did.

In a confidential interview with the wartime correspondent Konstantin Simonov, the famous Soviet Marshal G.K. Zhukov is quoted as saying:

"Today [1963] some say the Allies didn’t really help us… But listen, one cannot deny that the Americans shipped over to us material without which we could not have equipped our armies held in reserve or been able to continue the war" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend-Lease

I don't know how much of your unsourced estimate of how much war material was lend-leased to the Soviets is true. I do know that without it the Soviets would have collapsed under the weight of the Nazi war machine. Let's see....should I rely on the opinion of famous Soviet general Zhkov.....or yours, whoever you are?

It was sold, or given in some cases, to the Soviet Union at cost or near cost. Without it you would have been annihilated!
So easy for you, more than a half century after the fact, to shoot off your mouth!
