I read with sorrow that Jerry Tuccille just passed on at age 80.

Any old-time libertarians out there who never read his book It Usually begins with Ayn Rand could be in for a treat.

The book discusses the ideas and the crazies and craziness associated with the early libertarian movement.

...and now I have a new book to pick up on Kindle.

Might I recommend The Goddess of the Market if you like books about how bat(*)(*)(*)(*) crazy Rand was?

Crazier than the current "progressive" movement?

Libs long opposed tradition as a hindrance to freedom, a guardian of morality and an enemy of progress. But, when it comes to immigration, the immigrant’s traditions, language, and customs suddenly take on paramount importance as an expression of cultural diversity that must be protected at all cost.

Any Rand had one of the most logical minds of the 20th century.

If you want crazy, the place to look is Obama/Pelosi/Reid. And Bernie Sanders isn't even on our planet.

It can't function outside of the meth-induced fantasy lands she invented.

A logical mind that thinks charity is evil and narcissism is the best thing ever while doing crazily large amounts of amphetamines?

If you want to learn about her life but do not care to read, watch the movie with Helen Mirren. Not only is Helen incredible as Ayn but she is hotter then hell as the sex starved Ayn smokes and struts her way through NYC while completely emasculating her husband played by Peter Fonda. Ayn was a horror show, a mean, angry self absorbed biatch that created hundreds of pages of ranting nonsense idiots think is literature. If you want to see her in person, check out Mike Wallace's interview with her in the 50s. Horrible person, devoid of humanity, pitiable wreck of contradictions who railed against the welfare state for years until she started dying of lung cancer. Pitiful.

I wasn't trying to imply that most libertarians were crazy, but those were high-spirited times.

Many of us thought that if we just combined the best individual liberty ideas of the Democrats with the best free market ideas of the Republicans that we could start a movement that couldn't possible lose.

Boy, were we wrong!! But we did have some fun.

I'd like to see a very strong Libertarian Party. It was really too bad that they were represented by Gary Johnson last time. Probably their best bet would be the Trump route, run their 3rd party campaign, but not in the general, run it for the GOP nomination.

That was a damn slick move.

If not for Ayn be required reading in english lit. I'd probably never have read her works. She really inspired me to question the political status quo, and think outside the socio-political box. There's a lot she said, that I don't agree with, but Ayn being Ayn, wouldn't expect me to.

Right...so in Ayn Rand world, how does a nation exist without taxes?

    - - - Updated - - -

Her entire philosophy is about worshipping your own ego. That is narcissism.

No it is not even remotely about that.

Like I said learn about what you are criticizing before saying ignorant crap. You won't look so stupid that way.

    - - - Updated - - -

No she never was but that is in fact a popular falsehood.

    - - - Updated - - -

Not even remotely a cult. No resemblance to a cult.

The cult accusations are from those who never can create a sound argument against her ideas.

    - - - Updated - - -

Ah yes learning from a movie rather than reading.

Typical of fools who hate what she wrote but never read it.

    Not remotely a hypocrite.

She was not broke and did not accept socialism.

She demanded and got a partial repayment of what had been robbed from her by the government.

Sorry you are wrong and uninformed as usual

Rand was indeed bat(*)(*)(*)(*) crazy, and I say this as a libertarian. I feel she was truly scarred by the USSR.

I'd put Mises or Bastiat as the start of the libertarian movement.

She had her hand out and begged for help. I think her quote was please get me help from the government because I can't help myself. Lol
