Former House Speaker John Boehner predicted on Thursday that a full repeal and replace of Obamacare is “not going to happen.”

Boehner, who resigned in 2015 amid unrest among conservatives, said at an Orlando health care conference that the idea that a repeal-and-replace plan would blitz through Congress is just “happy talk.”

Instead, he said changes to former President Barack Obama’s signature legislative achievement would likely be relatively modest.

“[Congressional Republicans are] going to fix Obamacare – I shouldn’t call it repeal-and-replace, because it’s not going to happen,” he said.

On Thursday, Boehner said the talk in November about lightning-fast passage of a new health care framework was wildly optimistic.

“I started laughing,” he said. “Republicans never ever agree on health care.”

“Most of the framework of the Affordable Care Act … that’s going to be there,” Boehner concluded.

Hardly surprising. Boehner is no longer speaker but it's undeniable he knows these members of congress better than anyone. Far too much collateral damage from full repeal and it's impossible to find legislation they'll support that won't put some members at risk in the next election.

Great move by Boehner. It's probably just a dick move to poke at the whack-jobs that drove him so crazy he quit his job - if they prove him wrong, no one will care that he said it.

But now that it's out, from the former Republican Speaker no less, everything they do that is not a complete repeal-and-replace will make Boehner look prescient and the Republican congress look incompetent.

Excellent points. The biggest hurdle is to replace requires many republicans to vote for something...and I don't know what they could all find acceptable. They won't get many democrat votes so they'll have to do it alone. The freedom caucus won't support anything that subsidizes the poor. Moderates can't support something that doesn't and leaves millions uninsured. As Ted Cruz pointed out, insurance profits are up....so they'll be unlikely to support full repeal...

Well, the Senate is far too closely divided for Republicans to "do it alone".

And, so far Republicans have cut Dems out of the process entirely. Dems haven't even been involved in discussions of objectives.

A good number of states are failing the Medicaid/Medicare test. Plus, support through the exchanges is not getting enough support to keep corporations interested.

Given the dislike (but necessity) for the mandate to buy insurance and these other issues, Republicans could kill the ACA nearly by accident - simply by not giving health care the attention and support that health care has always required.

Then maybe the Dems should end their little footy jama parties and occupy their chairs.

Kinda hard to be involved when you don't show up.

    Nice spin attempt though.

I have NO idea what you are talking about.

Republican direction on health care has been fully exclusive.

For example, cite a bi-partisan committee working on health care design or even just objectives.

Good news for the public is that even if they don't the health insurance companies are doing it for them.

    What's next from Boehner?

A proclamation that the ocean contains water?

Everyone has known for ages that the ACA had ZERO chance of full repeal.

Who's John Boehner? Unlike the left who give their feeble politicians lifelong terms (see Pelosi) we got rid of Boehner a long time ago when he proved to be a loser.

Well, the dems were not the ones that killed Obama care.

But the pubs don't have a plan.

    Responsibility avoidance indeed.

I'll take Mr. Trump at his word......everyone will have better healthcare.

If not, then it is highly unlikely it would be the dems fault.

If would be the pubs that refuse to work with our new president.

And that will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Did you miss the part where nearly all of the providers have pulled out of the exchanges?

Obamacare is and always was a dismal failure, doomed to destroy itself.

It was an unsustainable piece of garbage, and you're not going to get to blame anyone else for it.

Maybe we can get Obama, Boehner, and Schumer up on stage for a real Cry Fest. Gentlemen, prepare your hankies.

Republicans are far too hapless to come up with a health care plan. Plus they don't care....

    You are somewhat correct.

I know a few on Obama care, at least they had insurance.

However, I'll be excited to see the new Trump Care roll out. You should be too.

We'll just have to see how that works out.

You seem to enjoy blaming the dems for a lot of issues.

But it's all republicans now, baby.

Yet, if it isn't successful, then it's the dems fault.

    Priceless. :) I see a pattern developing.

Like everything was the fault of Bush and the Republicans. I have to assume you just started following politics this week.

OK, so I'll assume you vote a straight party ticket. I do not.
I did not vote for Mr. Trump.
However, I did vote for a Bush or two at one time or another.
Straight party people do not follow politics, they follow a tribe.
