Default wrong idea

to do that to social security would be ridiculous. by having it taken out of your check your gaurenteeing that it will go somewhere. if you have to do it yourself, your more likely to put it in the bank and spend it on groceries, mortgage, car payments. plus someone would figure out how to screw you out of your money. the government screws us already they can't screw us on this unless bush does

Default the truth

TIMSVOICE, you just don't get it. You are not putting money in your own account to which you could spend the money on anything. The money will be soley used for investing/retirement plans that will most likely give you more money that the current SS system.

Plus, Bush's plan allows you to choose to keep the current system or the privatization one.

I dunno, SS has been working for quite some time now, and all indicators seem to show that SS will work just as well for quite some time.

Default I wish.

Lend me your eyes for a minute or two...

I'm afraid that most or all of the reports, and most or all of the news articles I've read, there's a few things which are squabbled over.

* The word "crisis"; mainly, because the program isn't starving now, it's not in a crisis. Nevermind that the income of the program and the spending of the program are in the wrong direction, and have been for some time. It's losing money, faster every couple of years. It's a dying program.

* There's nothing in it for Congress; or that because it's not a "crisis" (as noted) nothing needs to be done now. All future problems will be resolved by people who hold the responsible offices in the future. This one disgusts me.

* That it's only brought up to support Bush's "Wall Street" henchmen. Obviously, this is the real scare tactic. Never mind that assuming some of his friends DID make money on the market from increases in stcoks (due to this program). They would make it once. And then, they'd actually have to sell to make the money. Then what?

Well, they either reinvest in similar stock, thus not really making anything. Or they invest in venture capital/start up companies, and create jobs. So the evil people who would make money on the stock market from privatizing social security, would be stuck with a one-time profit, or be forced to make new jobs for people.

Bush did not create the idea of Privatizing Social Security. If I recall right, I think it came up while Clinton was in office, briefly. Anyway, I know it came up by a republican in the 70s, at least. So, this is well before Bush and his father. Which means, it is not really something drummed up by Bush to help his friends.

Additionally, with the Dems accusing Bush of drug company ties, and the fact that privatizing social security will cut across Medicaid (a juicy, sweet program paying loads of doctors and drug companies very well, thank you), makes me wonder how big his ties with drug companies really are. Why would he cut those golden ties with a program such as this, if they are so key to him? Or maybe, he doesn't really have them or they're not so key. Maybe he's more worried about the future than the current drug companies and AMA.

Finally, social security was designed as a retirement program (for the most part). So, since we have a better program now, investing, why not do it? We have an opportunity to make more money for ourselves and invest in the companies of the US. It seems like more people win with this new program...

I'll be back.
