Default How Now Chairman Mao?

Quote:
1. How will this affect the Missile Defense Shield currently under development?
What was a fantasy remains a fantasy.
Quote:
2. Is China still to remain "most favored nation" trading partner?
Now more than ever.
Quote:
3. Any ideas how this will affect geo-political economics? (Think about how multi-national companies will fare if billion dollar satellites get shot down. How will they conduct commerce?)
China, being heavily invested in the economies of other nations and multinationals, is not likely to do anything to jeopardize its portfolio.

4. Military satellites, and military operations are certainly beginning to understand the "pucker factor" now aren't they?
Nah.

Default Shoot down a satellite - no big thing

Shooting an old communications satellite out of the sky is no big accomplishment. I think Tom Clancy has the US shooting down an enemy satellite using an anti-satellite missile mounted under the wing of a high-flying jet fighter in one of his early books.

Shooting an old satellite in a fixed orbit out of the sky is far different than shooting down a ballistic missile carrying a nuclear warhead - particularly a missile that is designed to carry devices to evade an attack. That is what the long-chided Star Wars anti-ballistic missile system is designed to do. From what I recall, progress has been slow but steady on the US ABM system. China itself is starting to wonder if its nuclear ballistic missile system is a credible deterrent against the US. In the past, China has felt if the chances are good that at least one nuclear bomb can get past a US defense system and destroy a one major city that the US would not risk nuclear war.

Apparently China is researching some different options now. Actually a nuclear weapon could be delivered by a satellite which had been launched years earlier by China. I read that in some other novel...don't ask me to remember which one.

Quite shocking indeed, but I doubt many people are worried about what China themselves are going to do, only if they’ll pass new technology on to their friends in North Korea or elsewhere.

The Chinese are screwing everyone economically, I doubt they’ll start a military occupation and jeopardize that position.

Yep. You can expect to see even more amazing stuff from China in the next few years. Those people are smart. I've been trying to tell y'all...

A lot smarter than George W freakin' Bush, it seems......

Yikes.

(that little icon there is becoming my signature or something, 'cause I'm feeling it pretty much all-the-time, even when I'm overseas and not engaged in any overt politics - wow).....

We better get on the ball, is all I have to say.

We shot our first satellite in the mid 80's and now that's it's 2007(after all this time) it doesn't surprise me one bit that China can finally do it. Like DeadCenter said we should be more worried about them passing this on to other countries. It seems odd we wouldn't have developed some sort of countermeasure by now though.

If everything that everyone else does is received as some sort of 'threat' directed towards you, then I would suggest taking a closer look at you....rather than them.

And who is gonna stop 'em, anyway?
Exactly. And that's the sort of message we're trying to send here in the States with our missile defense systems, high powered lasers, and low yield bunker busting nukes. Just showing the world that our technology is improving -- people really read too much into blowing stuff up.

China is non-aggressive. They've been that way for 3,000 years. Their military adventures have only involved countries on their boarders.
Beware of the West.

Default REAGAN permited exports of satellites to China

http://www.globalsecurity.org/space/...91704_elt.html

This started under Saint Ronnie Reagan administration and was outlined by Franklin C. Miller, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense
For Strategy and Threat Reduction before a Hearing Of The Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation U.S. Senate September 17, 1998

This is the beginning
Quote:
In September 1988, President Reagan decided to permit the launch of U.S. commercial communication satellites by China
he said further "
Quote:
Reagan administration understood
the potential risk that such a program could lead to the transfer of
missile-related technology to China,
and the Reganites believed that this was safe because
Quote:
To help ensure that no significant missile or satellite technology is
transferred to China, the U.S. negotiated a bilateral technology
safeguards agreement with the PRC in 1988.
This continued under Bush I
Quote:
a decision by the Bush Administration in
1992 to transfer license Jurisdiction for purely commercial
communication satellites from the State Department to the Commerce
Department.
MORE
Quote:
President Bush directed a review to accomplish
this jurisdictional transfer in a manner that also ensured national
security interests would be protected.
AND MORE
Quote:
The Clinton Administration issued some of the
regulations implementing this jurisdictional change shortly after
taking office in 1993.
Now let us remember that RNC parotts and Neocon-artists right here in River City Political Forum tried to blame this entire mess on the Klintonians!!
Remember when the RNC parotts taleked about impeaching Klinton for getting money from China for technological secrets !!! Then tey found out that Klinton was launching into Monica's oriface so they impeached him for that ( indirectly).

So guys don't be shocked because it was SAINT God Prophet Reagan and Super Patriot who sold us out and is responsible for the Chinese being able to do what they just did.
