Default Ethical Robot Soldiers?

http://www.economist.com/science/tq/...ory_id=9028041
Wow! It's been in the works for a while to replace a lot of our ground soldiers with robots... but looks like we're moving on to an all-important step. Giving robots the ability to make ethical decisions... to override their killing orders if things are not right.

Default I am the Governator!

Does that mean that all of them have been trained by Edward Furlong to only shoot people in the knee caps?

Default I like you, Spaniard. I shall cheer for you.

My computer crashes when I use iTunes, I don't think I want it making ethical decisions!

Asimov solved that problem years ago -- though it kinda makes the soldiering part difficult:

It mentions that in the article (I know, it's the Economist- it's boring [(*)(*)(*)(*) Brits!], I skimmed it myself). The commands will obviously be a bit different.

Further evidence for all you liberals out there that the US does go to great lengths to avoid civilian casualties. This is a good example.

Default .

I think that it would take a long time to make robots that are reliable enough to replace human soldiers. However, i think that it is a good thing because it will decrease the loss of life in battles.
