Well, Let me say: NO! You can`t end terrorism! There will always be new forms of terrorists lurking in the world, its an endless battle!!!! Terrorism will always be around not matter what you do. So, the whole war on terrorism is just another exploit by Bush to get re-elected.

Actually, it's kind of a smart strategy. He declares war aginst an enemy that is never going to go away but that Bush can claim he is always beating. I know it's sorta backwards, but that seems to happen alot in his admin.

Default Orwellian...

Eternal war for eternal peace.

Orwellian, isn't it? When a nation puts itself in the position of always being in a state of war, things start to fall apart. Where do laws like the PATRIOT Act end? How many other iffy legislation will be passed during this "war"? History has shown us that during times of crisis, our presidents can extend their power and suspend rights of citizens. The difference being that these wars had foreseeable ends; terrorism does not.

That is what scares me about the war on terror the most…

What scares me is that our nation is no longer controlled by the people but a small group of people and from everything I see going on in our country and in the World, this small group of people doesn not have our best interests at heart. In fact I believe they care nothing about the morals and values they claim to cherish and fight to uphold. All they care about is their greed and I fear it will be the end of us all someday.

Default Yeah!

It's kinda like crime... murders... rapes... why bother fighting it? There's always going to be more! We should just learn to accept it and move on. It's totally obvious the only reason we try to do anything about it is so the police can pat each other on the backs!

Please explain how what you said has anything to do with what we were talking about?

It's declaring "war aginst an enemy that is never going to go away but that [we] can claim [we are] always beating." I think that's how you put it. Hmm... now that I think about it the war on poverty fits in this category, too. According to our definition of poverty, it will always exist in this country. Therefore, why fight it?

Ok, sorry. I had to read back a little further. In response, not once over on this post have I said that we shoulnd give up the fight against terrorism. Sure I disagree in the way we are fighting it, but it must be fought. But it is unrelaistic to think that we will stamp out terrorism b/c it is such a broad term and can take many forms. And by the way, bush is not fighting poverty, and he never has. So no, it doesn't apply.

But, you seem to agree with the first poster in this thread who claims that "the whole war on terrorism is just another exploit by Bush to get re-elected." As if he decided less than one year into his presidency that he would need to invent something like the war on terror to get re-elected. There sure are some crazy conspiracy theorists out there these days.
