It's looking like a false alarm. Too bad; the guy really needs to be sent to a different plane of existence.
One disappointing trend that has developed is that the Iraqi government simply cannot be counted on to tell the truth. Not only does it damage their credibility, it casts doubt on their fundamental committment to reality or accountability.

Iraqis back off the claim, U.S. denies he is in custody, as does al-Qaeda's Islamic State in Iraq
Last evening's reports of the capture of al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri appear to be incorrect. Brigadier General Abdul-Karim Khalaf, the spoksman for the Interior Ministry, initially reported al-Masri was wounded in a gunfight, and an aide was killed while trying to enter the city of Balad. Khalaf has since pulled back from this claim, while the deputy interior minister said the information could not be confirmed, as did the U.S. military. "We do not believe that he was either killed or wounded last night," said Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Garver, a MNF-Iraq spokesman. http://billroggio.com/ Looks like a case of mistaken identity. Iraqis are now saying it didn't happen. |

I think that it is more than Iraq I think it is the entire region. Basically the Middle East is full of lies and over statements. I wish that some would take that into account when applying the WMD mistake. Many in the Middle East like Hezbollah and Hamas say they will do one thing and then do another. I would think this should be taken into account when it comes to the WMD. Not just Hezbollah and Hamas but those in the region probably gave us bad info.

One of my favorite examples of that sort of thing was polls of Sunni Iraqis showing that many of them think they're actually in the majority in Iraq.
