Iraqi terror leader reported wounded

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The leader of al Qaeda in Iraq has been wounded and his top aide killed in a clash with police, an Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman told CNN Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Abdul Karim Khalaf said Iraqi police got into a firefight with insurgents on the road between Falluja, west of Baghdad, and Samarra, north of Baghdad, and wounded Abu Ayyub al-Masri.

Abu Abdullah al-Majamiai, al-Masri's top aide, was killed, he said. (Watch how an Iraqi minister described the firefight )

The group was trying to enter the town of Balad, Khalaf said.

Khalaf said Iraqi police have the body of al-Majamiai."

There is at least a 50% chance that this story is fabricated BS..

CNN could not independently confirm the report and CNN's Michael Ware in Baghdad said Iraqi officials would not say whether al-Masri was in custody.

So? Everyone already is aware of that. It's a new and breaking story, after all. You sound like you're hoping it's not true, though.

I certainly hope it's true. Regardless, Bush's mess will be cleaned up one way or the other. If not by our troops, the Iraqis will take care of al Qaeda and that's more likely to occur if we depart. From the secular Baathists to the Shia, Iraq has never been a very welcome place for al Qaeda - that is until the invasion.

Why do you say that you think I hope it's not true?

Glad to see it was the Iraqi police who got to him. It makes me think they might be getting on track of keeping care of their country instead of looking for our support. I hope to hear more good action from the Iraqi authorities because that would mean realistic troop withdrawl is next on the clock instead of fleeing the scene.

Is every member of Al Qaeda a leader? It seems as though everytime one of them is killed it was a leader.
