Germany says foiled "massive attacks" on U.S. sites

BERLIN (Reuters) - German security services foiled a plan by Islamist militants to carry out "massive bomb attacks" against U.S. installations in Germany and arrested the three men behind it, officials said on Wednesday.

Good for them. Overseas Americans will always be vulnerable, of course, but it's nice to see good police work prevent attacks.

It was more than just regular police work. Federal security forces were involved as well and have been tracking the guys for almost a year. As one of their officials said it's also a reminder that the terrorist threat is real. A good reminder how vigilant we all must stay.

Chancellor Angela Merkel called the arrests a "very, very great success."

"This shows that terrorist dangers, in our country as well, are not abstract but are real," she said. "It also shows for me that international cooperation is of decisive significance in the fight against terrorism."
