Default Terrorist Attacks in Algiers on UN 'kills dozens'

'Dozens killed' in Algeria blasts

There are fears people are trapped in the debris

The Algerian capital, Algiers, has been rocked by two deadly bomb attacks, on the country's Constitutional Council and the offices of the United Nations.
Medical officials have said more than 60 people were killed, but Algeria's Interior Minister, Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni, has only confirmed 22 deaths.

The bombs exploded around 9:30 a.m. (3:30 a.m. EST) and blew off the front off the U.N. refugee agency building, the main U.N. building housing the U.N. Development Program and other agencies across the street, and, in a different neighborhood, Algeria's Constitutional Council.

Interior Minister Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni said 22 people were killed and 177 people were wounded.

A national official at the civil protection agency who spoke on condition of anonymity said 45 people were killed. A doctor at one Algiers hospital who said he was in contact with staff at other area hospitals put the death toll at least 60.

Quote:
ALGIERS, Algeria (CNN) -- An al Qaeda-affiliated group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's two bomb blasts in Algiers that the state-run news agency Algerie Presse Service said killed at least 24 people and wounded 222.

A spokesman for al Qaeda in the Maghreb (North Africa) made the claim in a telephone call to Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera, the broadcaster said.

An Islamist Web site that has carried statements and videos from al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations posted a claim that described three attacks allegedly carried out by "three martyrdom seekers of the Lions of Islam" -- members of al Qaeda in the Maghreb. CNN could not verify the claims.

Algiers blasts kill 10 UN staff
There are fears people are trapped in the debris

The UN has confirmed 10 of its staff died in a double car bombing in the Algerian capital, Algiers, which killed at least 26 people and injured 177.

Medics believe as many as 62 people died when the devices went off near UN offices and government buildings.

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called the worst attack on the UN since 2003 "an abjectly, cowardly strike".

As rescuers dug through the rubble, Al-Qaeda's North Africa wing claimed the attacks on an Islamist website.

Algerian television has reported that six people were pulled alive from the ruins of the UN offices.

Quote:
In an unverified online statement, a group calling itself al-Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb said two vehicles packed with 800kg (1,700lb) of explosives each were used in the blasts.

The group labelled the UN buildings an "international infidels' den" and said it had carried out the attacks to honour one of its senior militants, who died fighting Algerian troops.

It called on Western leaders to "heed the demands of al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden".

Default Real government.

I think that terrorists (and people who think the only solution to any problem is a military solution) miss the point of government. The only government that people ever really accept is the kind that takes people out of rubble, maybe keeps them from finding themselves buried under rubble next to dead people in the first place. The kind that puts them there, I do not think people will ever accept as legitimate.

Default .

What you said is basically that the victims should fault themselves and their government. That a "real" government would appease terrorists and by this appeasing then be legit.

..and do not say that is not what you are clearly saying.
You affirm it with the last sentence.

Quote:
The kind that puts them there, I do not think people will ever accept as legitimate.
The kind of government that doesn't appease terrorist put them there.

Quote:

Or maybe:

Iraq is the central front on the war on terror.
In general we are winning the war on terror and we are also winning that major part of it in Iraq. Despite people like you.

....

They attacked the UN becasue of what it represents. Which of course in your worlds is the fault of the UN.

....

Whatever as usual the Cowardly Left is all full of giggles, canned rhetoric, and blaming the victims.
