Default a whole new thread about terrorism

So, hm.... this quote, from someone in Russia, struck me as interesting.

And, I'd like to use it, to ask y'all a question (especially you conservatives):

So, here's the quote:

Quote:

During Yeltsin's Presidency there were a few clearly visible separatist islamist movements, and I bet you know that most known movement took place in Chechnya. Those clowns as you depicted them asked for total independence of Russia. Boris Yeltsin claimed - literally- " take as much independence as you can EAT!"
After that a former officer of Soviet Army, Jokhar Dudayev proclaimed himself a President of an Independent Chechnya (Republic of Ichkeria). Russians declared war but totally lost 1st Chechenian Campaign. After that the situation got much worse. Backed by AQ sponsors, separatists from Chechnya declared creation of Pan-Moslem Caliphate on Russian south.
They invaded Dagestan, a neighboring region of Chechnya. In Dagestan they began shot to death all law-enforcers and members of district/town/village administrations they could find among citizen. Chechenyan invaders claimed that Dagestan is a first step to create mentioned Chalifate.
Vladimir Putin, a former KGBist and elected President responded fastly. Despite of various protests from World Community, troopers of Russian Army and special forces were searching and ultimately kill leaders of islamist gangs and brigades. Most of field commanders have been killed, others were sent to some analog of the US Gitmo....
Other moslem regions (such as Tatarstan and Bashkortostan) never tried to declare independence. Their law-enforcers also accomplished certain work to find possible leaders of extremist group and send them to prisons... Nowadays the situation is quite stable.
So, I'm guessing (duh...) that this is the "Islamist threat" that you conservatives are always whining about ( ) -

And, I'm kinda noting with interest there, the point about the "law enforcement officials".

(and, you know, that little bit about "some analog of the US Gitmo".... Russians are very clever people... ) -

So ah, how do you see this, relative our "current" US foreign policy?

You know, like, the whole idea of keeping the problem "over there" - do you think our "containment strategy" in that regard, will work?

Or, I mean, why are we strong-arming Icelandic tourists, and "not" strong-arming General Musharraf, to give up some of these clowns?

>>others were sent to some analog of the US Gitmo....<<

clarification :

Salman Raduyev (or Raduev; Russian: Салма́н Раду́ев; February 13, 1967 – December 14, 2002) was a rogue Chechen warlord and terrorist. He was considered to be one of the most radical and notorious Chechen rebel commanders of the period between 1994 and 1999....
....On January 9, 1996, Raduyev led the large-scale Kizlyar hostage taking raid into neighbouring Russian region of Dagestan, where his men took at least 1,500 civilian hostages. The raid escalated into the all-out battle and ended with the complete destruction of the Dagestani border village of Pervomayskoye, and other Chechen leaders criticised Raduyev.[1]....
In early 1999, Raduyev underwent major plastic surgery in effect acquiring a new face; the alleged implants of titanium earned him the nickname of Titanic (he also became popularly known in Chechnya as "Michael Jackson").....
......Raduyev was tried on multiple charges including terrorism, banditry, hostage-taking, organization of murders and organization of illegal armed formations. In December of 2001 he was sentenced to life in prison.....
....In December 2002, Salman Raduyev died in the "White Swan" penal colony in Solikamsk from internal bleeding. The circumstances surrounding the death of Raduyev are not clear and according to his family he was murdered in prison.

The sad part is that many of our own Americans and some GURU's on this FORUM falaciously and acually believe that the Chechyans were/are terrorists. The truth is that the Russians were/are the real terrorists. The Russians invaded and gained control over the Asian lands just as they did with with their European neighbors. The Russians began their reign of terror with Ivan the terrible and KATERHINE THE WHORE and continued that terror through the Communist era and now are doing the same under the Putinski facsism. Their was execution by hunger ( ask the 8 million Ukrainians murdered in the 1930'), to the Tarars who were expelled from Krym, to the Estonians, LATVIANS, Lithuanians, Armenians, etc etc who died in the gulags.

Yes there was terrorism in the Evil and the Russiam empires but it came from Moskva!!!

Why the scornful quotes around islamist threat? (Although you put quotes around half your words - hard to tell what your smirking at.)
Do you think there is no islamist threat? That would be stupid even by YOUR standards!

Lessee: 129 civilians killed in a movie theater attacked by chechens in 2002. Three hundred and thirty-four (334) civilians were killed, including 186 children, in an attack on a school in Beslan in 2004.

Naaaahhhh, the Chechens aren't terrorists.
