Icon4 64 dead in Baghdad market bombs

A female suicide bomber blew herself up at the main pet market in central Baghdad, killing at least 46 people and wounding dozens in the deadliest bombing to strike the capital since 30,000 more American troops began flooding into central Iraq last spring.

A woman?

Oh my God...

This stuff... it's just so sad....

I mean, it's not even the danger of it, it's the sadness....

A beautiful woman, feels the need, to blow herself up, to make a point?

People, there is something wrong with this, isn't there?

I mean, beyond all the ideology, and beyond all the "conflict" (ideological and otherwise) and all that crap.

People, I submit to you, here and now, that this is hardly a "national political problem" - this stuff, is a problem for humanity!!!

This - this blowing up of innocent life - this is not necessary!!!

Jesus.... oh my God.... you know, the people who are somehow seducing these suicide bombers and sending them to their deaths, these are the same kind of people who are trying to convince me that the war in Iraq is being fought for "US national security".

Know what I"m sayin'?

These people, are convincing other people, to go out and fight wars and battles and blow themselves up, in their name, and our name, and for what?

It's because they themselves, got some kinda stick up their butt, about not talking with their fellow human beings, and coming to terms.

The most twisted, bass-ackwards "logic" in the whole entire universe, is the "logic", that says, I'm not gonna talk to you, until.

Arrrgghhh...... I wish there was something I could do about all this. I do what I can. I try to reach out to people, using whatever medium (or mediums) I can.

But, you know.... I ain't the President of the United States. I'm only one voice among a hundred million, in that particular election, so.... all I can do, is talk with y'all and talk with my elected representatives as well, and somehow between all of us, hope that we can somehow bring something good to the table, around this thing.

'Cause really, people - as long as we think about this issue in terms of "national security", this, right here, these 64 deaths and this young lady whose life was needlessly taken - all this, will continue.

I wouldn't say that, not at all. He didn't "know" anything, that guy. All he "knew", was how to be a tyrant and a stain on humanity, and I mean, there's not much "knowledge" involved in that. Any dumb schmuck could do that!

Nah, the knowledge in politics, the smarts, comes in the form of "how to rule without an iron hand"!

See, that's a concept, that "some" people in your part of the world over there, haven't grasped yet. Whenever you guys try to break "out" of that model, you always seem to fall back into it - it's your "comfort zone" - it's "what you know".

And I mean, it "works" for you, right? In a certain kind of way... you "respect power", yes?

Well, we respect power too. Only, there's "other" things, we respect just as much.

On a good day, that is. When Bushie isn't the President... something like that.

Obeying the Iron Hand....It's all in their ancient culture, in their state of mind. They aren't ready for Western-style democracy whether you like it or not. So, they have either a total mess or stable state fully controlled by iron-handed dictator. The measures of western-style standards are utterly inappropriate for them.
And not every "dumb schmuck" has a talent to become a dictator...

Yes, I understand. But, are you saying, there's nothing "in between" those two extremes? There's no "middle ground" there, no other "possible equilibrium"?

I find that.... how can I say... "difficult to believe"?

Mm... I'm searching for the way to frame this question correctly:

If you believe that, that there's "no middle ground" in this regard, then, would you be essentially saying to me, that human nature there, is somehow "different from", human nature in some other places in the world?

Baghdad is not even a city anymore. It's merely a huge fortress of bunkers and checkpoints and walls. And people who still want to kill other people, of course.

That's a very interesting question. Human nature is quite a broad term, but I'm sure that as a people, the majority is conformed to believe certain things. Is the average American different the average Spanish citizen? How about people in countries like Argentina, Brazil or Cuba...

People are surely conditioned by their conditions (in all walks of life), but how exactly human nature is effected by these conditions is something that would call for serious research.

With that said, I'm sure we can all agree that there are differences between people from different coltures. The question is how deep do they run?
