Switzerland is also a liberal democracy like the USA is. It upholds its people's rights, it holds periodic elections and there is a pluralism of political opinion.

And I'm sure gays have rights to engage in sexual behaviour there too, which obviously would (*)(*)(*)(*) any Islamic fundamentalist off. So then, why hasn't Switzerland been subject to an Al Qaeda attack? Why no bomb in Geneva, Zurich, Basel or Bern?

Practically every man over 18 in Switzerland owns a gun(including assault rifles and other heavy weaponry) and has sufficient military training. Terrorists may be evil, but they aren't stupid.

Because Switzerland doesn't have military bases on their land and minds their own business. Something we can learn from.

So terrorists fear being shot with guns? Why then are they fighting against NATO in Afghanistan, if they are scared of guns?

And I'd think it would take plenty of bottle and balls to blow yourself up and take many innocent people out, like they do in Iraq. So selective cowardice then?

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Because the Swiss Army are armed with those nifty little knives. The new models have an "anti-terrorist" tool on them now - just next to the spoon.

America is much bigger. It's hard to forget about America even if it goes turtle. Switzerland, by contrast, is small, well-defended, and extremely quiet on the international scene.

We could have the same effect if we split up into a large number of small nations and then each one of those small nations became quiet. I don't think that's going to happen though.

It's sort of like why Nazi Germany didn't go and attack Mexico first. You go after the threats and territories you can grab first.

It's a sweet deal for a lot of countries though. Just sit back and let America do the work. At least some help out.
