Default Why don't gov preserve culture of native Americans in Alaska

Why don't American government preserve culture of native Americans in Alaska?

You see, I'm very much worried about recent developments in Alaska. I'm an Alaska native and I must say that government of the U.S. is not interested in preserving our culture or unicity. Anything is done with the only aim to decrease our importance and assimilate us with the rest of population of America. It is not development of Alaska that is in mind of politicians in Washington but complete assimilation of Alaskan native settlers like the Eskimos, Aleuts and other native American groups, so that we cease to exist and Alaska become inseparable part of the U.S. once for all.

What is most alarming is that we gradually undergo degradation. I heard that a bases of Evangelicalism and Catholicism will be soon studied at Alaskan schools because many incomers from continental America practice these confessions. While at the same time our children will have less academic education which means they will have insufficient education to enter a university and they will have less opportunity to integrate into modern life. Certainly this will cause further expanding of alcohol abuse, fetal alcohol syndrome, raise a rate of suicides and domestic abuse.

I only see the solution in breaking away from the U.S. and possibly re-joining Russia as we used to be part of it years ago. As far as I know, there in Russia they do not treat native resident population with scant courtesy. At least, they would try to preserve our culture as they do with the culture of the Chuvans, the Evens, the Chukchis and the Eskimos. Honestly speaking, I will be happy to do away with America crazy about assimilating us.

The reason why America walks all over your people is because your people are not capable of anything that is remotely beneficial to this country. It is now 2006 and your people are still living in prehistoric times. If your people can not evolve and defend what is yours then your people are not worthy to keep the land of your ancestors.

The only way I would ever let Alaska seperate from the U.S. was if your people agreed to take all of America's colored minority population with you.

Racist, why don't you go live in a tundra wasteland? Get back to me when you and your Nazi-Klan brethren have built a new civilization (or better yet, don't.).

As for you, Achim, I see your concern, but it is not the goverenment's responsibility to preserve cultures. There are too many other things we need tax revenue for.
It is up to your own devotedness and how you can find sympathizers with money or other resources to aid you. You may be able to find a non-profit organization that will help preserve your culture. I wish you luck on that, but the work is up to you and your tribe, not the government.

Default work for the dream

Actually you have a good idea,in that moving to Russia idea! But i bet you'd only get a hand full to join you.OR,Join in the American dream and teach your children your ways and beliefs at home. The Govt. out of your life is a good thing, make your own schools,if you don't want to join the others. The govt. does not need to have a hand in preserving your culture any more than the federal govt. should have to pay for the rebuilding of New Orleans ! Individual states and people, pick yourself up.(That's across the board) Stop looking to shift the burden to others.!

You know, I could respond like....

....well, your just mixed-up Koreans who go lost in the snowstorm anyway...

-OR-

...don't you have a seal to skin or nose to rub?...

-BUT-

I want to first understand why you think it's the governments responsibility to preserve your culture when your culture has been around roughly 5 times longer than the American culture has been in existence, and when exactly did that responsibility fall to the current US government?

Default No Federal Jurisdiction

"No Federal Jurisdiction"

This is being asked as a serious question.

Are you saying that native americans do not receive enough money from their Alaska Casinos to support their culture?

The government is not trying to preserve any culture, that is the pride and prejudice responsibility of the people. The government might try to preserve history in monument, parks, libraries, etc.

At one time the government openly preserved pervasive perpetual welfare populations, it still does but hides that truth behind different program names.

Because the government shouldn't preserve any culture. Indeed, it can't. The only people who can and should preserve the culture of these groups is the groups themselves.
