Thread: Waterboarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed DID NOT LEAD TO THE CAPTURE OF OSAMA BIN LADEN!!

Default Waterboarding Khalid Sheikh Mohammed DID NOT LEAD TO THE CAPTURE OF OSAMA BIN LADEN!!

Documents released years ago concerning the "enhanced interrogation" techniques (known by the rest of the world as torture) were used on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in 2003 including waterboarding KSM 183 times in one month. If waterboarding was SO effective, why couldn't they get the name of these couriers then?

News reports state that detainee interrogations during 2007 produced the name of the courier that US intelligence tracked to find Osama bin Laden's hideout in the Suburbs of Pakistan. The information is still vague but there is ZERO evidence currently that waterboarding KSM had anything to do with it.

After the Sept. 11, attacks, "detainees gave us information on couriers. One courier in particular had our constant attention. Detainees gave us his nom de guerre, his pseudonym, and also identified this man as one of the few couriers trusted by bin Laden."

In 2007, the U.S. learned the man's name.

It was not immediately clear where the information that opened the end game was obtained. The New York Times reported Monday that detainees at the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, gave the courier’s pseudonym to interrogators and identified him as a protégé of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the confessed mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks. But the Associated Press quoted unidentified U.S. officials as saying that CIA interrogators at secret prisons developed strands that led to bin Laden.

“Social Security has nothing to do with the deficit. Social Security is totally funded by the payroll tax levied on employers and employees. If you reduce the outgo of Social Security, that money would not go into the General Fund to reduce the deficit, that would go into the Social Security Trust Fund. So Social Security has nothing to do with balancing the budget or lowering the deficit.” –Ronald Reagan

If it had happened during the time when they were torturing detainees, surely Bush and Cheney would of jumped on it in order to get OBL.
The reports coming out is that the WH has been tracking this courier only since Aug 2010.
I don't generally (well never) watch Faux news. I was just curious after seeing how sad this forum had become. Some here making this a sad event instead of a celebration with their partisanship. Honestly I was surprised that a couple of guests gave full Kudo's to OBAMA. Of course the troops too, but that is to be expected from all sided I would think.

Ugh. Been spending the whole day painting the same picture.

The CIA got bin Laden. Woulda gotten him years sooner if we didn't go all out with 100,000 boots on the ground.

    I love the CIA!

"If waterboarding was SO effective, why couldn't they get the name of these couriers then? "

One reason might be that the detainees in our custody didn't know the couriers real name.

The reason for code names in the Spy v Spy business is to keep things a secret.

But the Bush era intelligence people did get a lead that eventually produced Osama bin Laden.

Which Obama is now garishly taking credit for.

How about a quote from Obama on Obama "taking credit"! I would be interested in that.

Shakespeare said it long ago when he described the Right Wing political movement so very well -

"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing."

You already asked me that question on another thread and I answered you.

Obama's speech was filled with Obama describing himself as the key player or driver in this event when in fact he was little more than a passenger.

"And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice.

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body."

they did, the nick names at least

In a secret CIA prison in Eastern Europe years ago, al-Qaida's No. 3 leader, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, gave authorities the nicknames of several of bin Laden's couriers http://www.deseretnews.com/article/7...bin-Laden.html
Maybe you should write a note of apology to Bush and Cheney for all the posts you have made through the years now that it turns out they know more than you do about foreign policy

You call that proof that waterboarding DIDN'T provide valuable information? Where? Where in your OP, does it prove that? It doesn't.
