Default More Secrecy in the White House

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18977033/
No one incident is that alarming... but for the love of all that is decent, this just happens way too much with this administration. Why are these guys so obsessed with secrecy?
Any answers that pop into our heads... well, they can just blame themselves for being so goddam secretive.
Quote:
"We're looking at a huge problem if the White House can reach into any agency and say certain records have something to do with the White House and they are presidential from now on," Blanton said. "This White House has been infinitely creative in finding new ways and new forms of government secrecy."
That sums it up.

Keeping Cheney's visitor logs secret? Please. These guys take "secrecy" and "national security" to unheard of levels. But irrational paranoia is the calling card of the soon to be nearly extinct neo-con.

I get one of two pictures:

1. They're doing something they should not be doing on a regular basis and thus have a lot to hide...

or

2. They really like playing spy. Cheney hides under his desk and aims his fingers at you like a gun if you walk into his office, screaming "BANG BANG!"

You have to love the argument that letting the public know who the visitors are will interfere with the White House's ability get "candid advice." I'd like to know how that logic works. Someone will refuse to say something important at a private meeting because their name is in the guestbook?

People are always more truthful when they know that their words cannot possibly be held under scrutiny.

I can believe that. But the gun is real.

I understand that argument. But it is properly applied to the transcript of the meeting itself, not the list of attendees.

I should have added the . I was being sarcastic...
Like I believe people are more likely to be truthful without fear of scrutiny... only on issues of feeling and popularity.
For sound advice, verifiability is necessary. Of course this administration indulges in ideological groupthink... so I'd expect them to want to hear things that are under the public radar completely.
