I'm not sure that that is a positive.

I dunno. They seem to inspire a particularly extreme amount of venom. Bill didn't seem to get much of anything done legislatively except welfare reform. All his "Democratic" issues got shot down. When I think of the Clinton presidency, I think more of partisanship and winner take all than bipartisanship. The dude *did* almost get impeached. Granted, Bush has taken partisanship to a new level, but that doesn't mean I liked the old level either.

Just sayin.

Can't argue with that, though I think the world would take anybody but Bush at this point, and be especially welcoming to any Democrat. I don't think Hillary would get *that* much more slack than say, Edwards or Obama.

Just how I see it. Subjectivity and all.

Right now I'm rooting for the Dodgers.

I dunno.
If Bill were running again, aside from obvious legal issues, I'd vote him back in... But Hillary seems to have a different vision altogether. Not that I think she's as bad as people make her out to be. But still... I don't think we can count on her to be a good but morally questionable president. If anything, it's the opposite. Hillary is somewhat of a religious fanatic (despite the right-wing BS of her being the antichrist).
So I'm not really sure if the Clinton experience is going to count for much good.

What is it about the Clinton era that people remember with good feelings? It couldn't be the political climate of the time. It can't be legislative victories. Lord knows it wasn't the high water mark for honest and effective government.

Is it because the world "liked" us? Is it because of a nostalgia for a pre 9/11 world? Neither of those things are traits logically attributed to the Clintons per se.

I don't get it.

It's nothing to shrug about that the world liked us then.
The economy ran smoothly and some important reforms were made because Clinton, unlike many Democrats, was willing to listen to economists as well as constituents.
Sure he was dirty. Sure some of his politics were shady. In many ways he was pretty awful.
But he was effective.
That's something we miss right now... and none of these new frontrunners really seem to fit the bill.
