By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 20 minutes ago Rank-and-file Democrats expressed dismay on Friday over their party's latest anti-war strategy, with some members reluctant to vote around Veterans Day to bring troops home. The House was on track to consider legislation next week that would give President Bush $50 billion for operations for Iraq and Afghanistan, but insist that he begin withdrawing troops. The measure identifies a goal of ending combat by December 2008, leaving only enough soldiers and Marines behind to fight terrorists, train Iraqi security forces and protect U.S. assets. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushed off plans for a Friday vote after caucus members told her late Thursday they weren't sure they would support it. Liberal Democrats said the proposal was too soft, while conservative members told Pelosi they thought it went too far. "I think the message in the next week ought to be that a heck of a lot of people have been harmed (in combat) and we ought to take care of them," said Rep. Gene Taylor, a conservative Mississippi Democrat who says his constituents mostly support the war... ...Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Democrats face "unfortunate timing" because of the military progress being made in Iraq. "While our troops are quelling violence and defeating terrorists in Baghdad and throughout Iraq, Democrats in Washington are trying to choke off funds for our troops in the field," he said. Hopefully, level heads will prevail.

Wow. Amazing. Can't vote on this 'cause it's gettin' near Veteran's Day? Grr.... y'know, I'm startin' to get the impression that there's only two people that are stupider than Bushie, and their names are Ried and Pelosi.

Its a dead idea that will only re-emphasize the defeatism of the Democrat Leadership.
Its bad enough that they want to lose its worse that they can't even promote their losing with honor. On one side I don't want to see this kind of trash because of the harm it does to our soldiers and civilian morale as well as the pat on the back it gives our enemies. On the other side I like to see this kind of crap because it reaffirms the defeatist nature of the Democrat Leadeship as well as further displaying how they treat such a things as war in a flippant game like manner. Timing?..the timing sucks bad.

Yep. The times they are a-changin'.
Conservative democrats, and liberal republicans. There's a lot of people starting to cross party lines, on a "lot" of stuff. "Part" of that, is what always goes on before elections. I suspect though, that "part" of it, is something else. I really would be, "less and less", surprised, if a viable third party were to emerge. It's like, "everyone's" unhappy. As an ex-Republican, I'm pissed, and if I were a Dem, I'd be even more pissed. As you say, JP, the Dems have done squat, like, nothing. On the other hand, it seems like they're starting to flex their muscles a little, so we'll see what that means (probably nothing, would be my guess).... But yeah, did you see the thing on C-SPAN, about the seating arrangement in Congress? That was great, it's like, "why are these people sitting where they are?".... |

Typical... Yeah - code Pink is protesting the Dems too now, and the "moderates" are gonna hit the roof when they hear that Hillary's "tax plan" comes in at 52%. I have a feeling that Pelosi is trying very hard to get the Dems to focus on Bushie, and who knows, maybe some good can come out of all that (I mean, if our nation doesn't have to go through that "again", that would probably be a "good" thing)... But yeah, the way the rules are set up, the Reps get their power protected till they drop below 40 Senators, and it doesn't look like that's gonna happen, so.... You know, the tragic thing, is that Bush is what's standing in the way of a better bi-partisan consensus. It's only the die-hard Bush loyalists that are also the Party faithful - anyone who doesn't like Bush is probably mad at the Party too, the Reps 'cause they let the guy get in there in the first place, and the Dems 'cause they haven't done anything about him. Well, Pelosi's not "too" bad - she's probably better than Hillary, all things considered - and you're right, she does have a tough job. Nah, the one thing that's gonna unite "everyone", is hatred of Bush. All the rest of that stuff, is like, you know, "the Dems are the party of ideas", kinda thing. They got too many ideas, and not enough discipline. |

yep, on the one hand we have you wanting them dead, and on the other hand we socialists that want them alive. If we let them live we win, or if we give them money which was never denied, we also win. So we should give them the money and keep as many of them alive as we can by starting to bring them home, inspite of your wonderful pipe dreams to murder them before we can get them out of that hell hole.
