Your headline is deceptive, since New England does not represent the US. Obviously they are not anywhere near extinct since they hold close to 50% of the seats and held the majority for the better part of 12 years. It just means the dems are extinct in another part of the US to make up for it.

Who needs New England? Most people who get a chance to move out of there because of the cold. Unless global warming makes their climate better, their area geographically will be more and more insignificant as their population gets smaller as a percentage of the US population and their representation gets to be less and less of congress. I know a lot of New Englanders who are glad to get out of the cold, and will never go back.
