Default Strawberry prices hiked by bee deaths

Here is another news story from Denmark. Apparently massive deaths of bees, known now as Colony Collapse Disorder are not just happening in the US but here as well. Here is a story in that regard from Denmark.

An excerpt:
Quote:
Faltering bee populations have resulted in more expensive strawberries this year

An epidemic among the nation's bee population has resulted in fewer strawberry crops being harvested this season.

I hate bees, I didn't know that they did anything good, except sting my sister.

Is there a way to artificially do the work that bees do?

It is estimated, from what I have heard, that it would cost approximately 50 trillion dollars a year to replace bees artificially along with other polinating animals, to keep our agricultural yields at normal levels. This doesn't include polination that occurs naturally and keeps ecosystems working.

The reason its so expensive is that many plants need a specific bug or apendage or whatever to polinate. So for each specific plant that needs bees for polination purposes, you will have to design a machine or something to artificially pollinate the plant.

I think bees are incredibly fascinating and I know they are extremely important because I have a berry patch and without them, I wouldn't have strawberries, rasberries or blackberries.

Thank you for your encompassing answer. It means I don't have to make one.

Of course. All food sources in the world would die.

Everything in nature is fascinating and extremely important to planet earth.
