Default Senate passes Iraq war funding bill with add-ons

The Senate has overwhelmingly passed the new Iraq war funding bill, with a whole bunch of add ons, including home heating subsidies for the poor, funds to fight wild fires, and lots more that have nothing to do with war. Surprisingly, many Senate Republicans have joined Democrats in this effort.

The key word here is "veto bait".

1) Democrats are veto baiting Bush, so that many will see Bush as voting against the troops.

2) Republicans are veto baiting Bush, so that when they override his veto, they can claim they went against him, and hopefully, get themselves reelected.

This is nothing to do with what is good for America. It is politics as usual. But with a very weak president like Bush, it is easy for all hell to break loose in Washington, as politicians, both Democratic and Republican revert to an "it's every man for himself" strategy.

Bush has weakened America in more ways than one, and the strategy of veto baiting has now crossed party lines. Sad. Very sad.

Article is here.

So what exactly do you want him to do? Pass it, with all the non-related pork? Veto it, so it falls right in your stupid little wheelhouse? What do you want him to do with it?

He'd better not veto it. He has to support our boys overseas who are fighting those naughty terrorists.

Default Hey wait a minute...

I thought it was Democrats who pledged earmark reform in order to get elected in 2006. Now they load down a military funding bill with earmarks?

Did they lie to us yet again?

I hope he vetoes it. Then the next time he is on TV I hope he drops a manhole cover sized dime on them.

Looks like the point I was making went right over your head. Once again, Bush is being veto baited, not only by the Democrats, but by members of his own party as well.
