Indiana Jones movie upsets communists

MOSCOW, Russia (AP) -- Members of Russia's Communist Party are calling for a nationwide boycott of the new Indiana Jones movie, saying it aims to undermine communist ideology and distort history.

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" stars Harrison Ford as an archaeologist in 1957 competing with an evil KGB agent, played by Cate Blanchett, to find a skull endowed with mystic powers.

It hit Russian screens Thursday.

Communist Party members in St. Petersburg said on a web site this week that the Soviet Union in 1957 "did not send terrorists to the States," but launched a satellite, "which evoked the admiration of the whole world."

Moscow Communist lawmaker Andrei Andreyev said Saturday "it is very disturbing if talented directors want to provoke a new Cold War."

I thought of it as just an homage to the fiction of the 1950s.

I have this comicbook from the fifties starring "Fighting American," a sort of Captain America clone who fights communists. There's this hilarious scene where all of these really good-looking guys meet back at their villainous lair and take off their rubber masks, revealing themselves to be hideous monsters. The hero, who is spying from nearby, exclaims something like, "Oh, my gosh! They're so ugly! They must be COMMUNISTS!"

It's just the standard brainwashing propaganda of the age. The stuff we read and watch now will probably seem just as silly to most people in a few decades (it already seems pretty silly to a lot of people).

BooHoo. It's a MOVIE! I bet they're not offended by imported slash porn portraying women being abused beyond belief. Come to think of it, America's not offended by that either. The world is becoming increasingly politically bipolar.

That's interesting. I didn't know Obama or The Hildabeast had seen the movie already!

It is a movie.

A fictional movie.

I believe that many (naive) people around the World actually think that the entertainment industry exported from the US, like movies - actually repesents what Americans believe to be factual.

Like Americans can't distinguish the difference between fact and fiction! When it is in actual fact them that have the problem seperating the two.

Its just a movie made for people to go out of an evening catch a movie, some food and have some fun - nothing more
