Yes the surge in unemployment is bad, but the 5.5% still leaves the United States at full employment.

A lot of people want to make out like the United States is doing really really bad and we're just not. We are doing really well considering that we were attacked and lost more than a trillion dollars from our economy because of that attack. Plus we have had to fight a war half way around the world for seven years and the housing crash and the cost of oil.

What really sucks is that the Congress is doing everything it can to make it worse. They are giving away money, which causes the money to be worth less and soon they will be saying we should extend benefits to unemployed people, which is giving money away and that causes money to be worth less.

I just wish we could get congress out of the spending money and regulating business, business. I think Obama is going to do that. He talks about it all the time. I just hope he can stop it. But I am all for Obama getting congress out of the money culture.

Obama has never met a social program he didn't like. Thus, the bloat gets more bloated.

Unemployment rates of some other nations:

6.1% - Canada - Source
7.8% - Germany - Source
7.5% - France - Source
6.7% - Italy - Source
9.6% - Spain - Source

Perspective is a good thing eh? 5.5% aint lookin all that bad all of a sudden.

Not that unemployment here is bad (it's not), but you cannot compare unemployment levels across countries because the methodology for determining unemployment differs. It's not apples to apples. The unemployment level is heavily influenced by who counts as unemployed. Sort of like the poverty level. Who counts as living in poverty makes a huge difference in the poverty rate. We've actually changed the figures many times to make it look better. Plus, tons of people living in poverty in the U.S. are loaded compared to people living in poverty in other places. It's simply not apples to apples.

The US will do better in its next election. And the jobs will flood in.
