Default Defend the Economic Stimulus!

In a mockery of the 'much needed' stimulus bill, here is a game for every American; since every one of them will be paying for it.

Defend the stimulus package from its obvious fallacies.

Round One:

Quote:

* Examine "barriers to correct condom use" at Indiana University, at a cost of $221,000.

* Study "hookups" among adolescents at Syracuse University. Study's cost: $219,000.

* Evaluate "drug use as a sex enhancer" in an analysis of "high-risk community sex networks" at the University of Illinois, Chicago. That study will cost $123,000.

* Study how methamphetamine, thought to produce an "insatiable need" for sex among users, "enhances the motivation for female rat sexual behavior." Some $28,000 has been awarded for the University of Maryland at Baltimore study.

Those things listed sound like everyday normal (*)(*)(*)(*) that governments around the world blow our money on. The same thing happens in the UK for sure.

Then it shouldn't be boasted as "saving the economy" but as garbage.

my only problem with the stimulus was that it was not throughly examined to eliminate programs that were not designed to stimulate anything. too much pork made it into a bill that should have been above politics as usual.

but the majority of the bill was fine with me. folks that point out those parts that seem to do nothing to stimulate the economy are right to do so. but those that point out those parts and then say "the whole bill was a bad idea" are wrong. imho.

the bill wasn't perfect, but hopefully it was good enough. we will still have to wait and see if it was really worth it.

A portion of the stimulus is the most pretentious waste of taxpayers money. The stimulus was passed and designed to put money into people's pockets right NOW and create jobs right NOW. It's reported that the states have received roughly 10 percent of the entire stimulus money yet unemployment continued to skyrocket in many states after the "spendulus" was signed back in January. The notion that some Liberals actually believe the stimulus is working is quite absurd. Housing foreclosures up 7 percent in July and the value of the American dollar steadily declining. Over 2.8 million jobs lost and counting since Obama took office, it's no mystery his approval ratings continue to drop like Wal-Mart pricing.

Was it? Why is that?

I happen to think the entire thing was nothing more than one big pay-off.

Immediately after the 2010 elections, the so-called stimulus will be repealed.

Alright then. The whole bill was a bad idea, regardless of the relative worth of any part.

No we don't. Reasoned and logical conclusions inform us that prosperity cannot be achieved by creating more debt to alleviate the problems created by too much debt.

If we do not move swiftly to sign the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law, an economy that is in crisis will be faced with catastrophe. Millions more Americans will lose their jobs. Home will be lost. Families will go without health care. Our crippling dependence on foreign oil will continue. That is the price of inaction. This plan will save or create over three million jobs - almost all of them in the private sector. This plan will put people to work renovating more than 10,000 schools, giving millions of children the chance to learn in 21st century classrooms, libraries, and labs - and to all the scientists in the room today, you know what that means for America's future.
