Most people believe that compulsory education was invented to educate, that’s a lie, there is a reason why prisons, compulsory education and factory’s made their appearance around the same time. Factory’s came but the people rejected this kind of degrading work at first, working in factory’s was thought of being similar to slave labor and nothing a gentleman (the system started in England) should do. They could not change the adult people to accept the work in factory’s, but they could create a system which would condition the next generation to think of this kind of work as normal; compulsory schooling.

The idea that public education is a tool for control really is ironic, as the powerful you identify have been strippping it of resources and currupting its syllabas with madness like creationism. Fracturing the public education system is the coup de gras in such an endeavor, not its gravest threat.

Yes education can be used to control, the same way it can be used to free. Public education done right is great thing, and other countries, such as my own of Australia, are shown to do quite well with it in your graphs.

I distrust you as this has the element a good lie needs- some truth, lack of detail and historical clouding. Your central thesis is correct, but if your solution is to abolish public education, instead of reforming and improving it, its madness.

For instance, I'd have never read Orwell had I not had a public education. Or be able to read for that matter.

think for a moment, as an individual, do you like what you are or not? if you like it, then continue to be what you are, if you're not, then change yourself. what's the difference of living in the matrix and out of it? nothing! do you really care if you're used as a battery or not if you don't know?
