Simon Mann
I recently watched a Foreign Correspondant documentary on Simon Mann, the disgraced former British SAS Officer convicted on charges relating to an attempted Coup against the government of Equatorial Guinea by leading a mercenary force into the capital Malabo in an effort to kidnap or kill president Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. He is now being held at the infamous Black Beach Prison.
He made a rather interesting statement on this documentary the other night by stating: "There was no Coup. Sure, the intent was there -- but we can only be charged with buying illegal weapons. The Boeing never landed, the Airport never taken. I'm a victim of a crime fair greater than any I have ever commited." He was also illegaly kidnapped and deported from Zimbabwe and taken to Equatorial Guinea.
I'm interested to hear/read what you guys think about it. I'm sure this has been posted before, but I am rather interested in the progress of his conviction and have followed the trials since 2004.
