14 killed in weekend violence in L.A. County

Most of the homicides are shootings in high-crime areas. Law enforcement authorities say gangs are involved in many cases.

By Andrew Blankstein, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
2:40 PM PDT, June 9, 2008

Violence on the streets of Los Angeles County took 14 lives this weekend, underscoring the struggles of local law enforcement in dealing with a rise in homicides this year.

Most of the weekend homicides were described by authorities as gang-related. They occurred across the county but were concentrated in areas known for high crime rates, such as South L.A. and the northeast San Fernando Valley.

It looks like it's more dangerous to live in L.A. than Baghdad.

I LOL'd when I saw the title of this...."Big Attack...."

MNF is a great site to see how the surge HAS worked in Iraq. Anybody want to question it go back to before the surge was deployed and take it from there. Its a butt whipping by the CF!

You'll also see where the locals have turned in and turned on insurgents numerous times.

And more dangerous still to live on the inside of a nuclear reactor, so really nobody should complain anywhere.

Default No Positive Media Coverage "Ever"

It is true and very sad that we have 140,000 soldiers in Iraq/Afghanistan and we never hear of any good news from the media. My husband is over right now and it good things are happening over there that never gets coverage in our news. It almost seems like there is no War going on. But yet, when something terrible happens the media and Democrats jump all over the story, its almost like they are waiting for bad things to happen over there. The war is not over yet, there will still be bad things happening over there and I'm sure we will hear more about how the war is going by then. It is really sad and people should be ashamed for not supporting the troops (even though they say they do but not the war). Well coming from a soldiers wife, the two really go together whether we like to admit it or not. I hate this war as much as everyone else but what else can we do but think positive and hope something good comes out of it in the end. If there is an end to it that is. I believe this war will go on longer than predicted but to say that Obama will bring troops home sooner no matter what is just another ploy to get elected in Nov. and it is working apparently. I've said enough for now... thanks to those who listened.

All the more reason why we should be focusing on our own country. Thanks for aiding w/ that argument.

milen39, thank your husband for his service. I think that people support the troops more than anytime since WW2. People may disagree with the war itself, as is our right and responsibility as citizens to question, so it's not our problem if you can't separate the two; just know that when he comes home, it will be the democrats legislation that provides him more benefits than the GOP wanted him to have.

Secondly, the media report the same way they do over here, if 40,000 cars go down a freeway with no trouble, it doesn't get reported; two cars collide, it makes the 6pm news; that's just the nature of the beast, not any percieved "liberal bias". The only reason we aren't getting more coverage is because it's not safe for reporters to walk down the streets.
