Default Support FOR the troops

For all of those who would like to send our troops deployed to Iraq a Care Package this holiday season but don't have a clue what to send, here are some suggestions directly from a trooper stationed there.

Quote:
Photos from Iraq and Lending a Hand

...snip

If you have an interest in sending a care package to soldiers in Iraq, Russ advises you contact anysoldier.com. If you’d like to send to Russ’s unit (the soldier above) please contact us here at Armchair General for his address. Additionally, here is a list of things Russ said are in high demand from fellow soldiers;

Small boxes or packs of Kleenex
Throat lozenges
Stuff for colds
Nuts (yeah like we have enough running around here with weapons, so just the edible kind please)
Beef jerky
Hard candy
Gum
Tooth paste, any size or type, travel size works ok
Floss
Soap
COFFEE (its cooling down and we will consume a lot of it)
Puzzle books
DVD Movies (you can send used ones we will leave them for the next crew or the post library)
Thanks for your support!

I received packages and letters from people I didn't know, when I was in Viet Nam, too. It was fun to read their letters and share the goodies they sent.

The troops would love to hear from you.

I wouldn't send them nor would I recommend anyone else doing so. But there's no telling what you might choose to do. But should you choose to do so, I hope you are ready for the possible consequences of your actions.

Cuz cuz, I may not like you or agree with your pov, but I'd really hate to lose you.

No pork, porn or booze.

I would add sunscreen to the list along with chap-stick.

also no homemade baked goods (unless the soldier personally knows the sender)

the "where to send" page lists the 'want and need' items for each unit

i was stunned to see so many items that the military is NOT providing our troops.

soldiers in a landmine unit without proper multi-tools to do their job? shortage of socks. blankets! wtf???

but what was stunning are the consistent, very positive remarks coming from the (usually young) troops. despite their hardships and being away from home, family and friends.

the most requested item by a long shot: a letter

more people need to be made aware that anysoldier.com site exists
